How does the type of person who would suffer from this particular anxiety differentiate it from the general constant anxiety that I promise you they think they are eaten alive by every minute of every day when they DO have their phone?

Lorelle: I thought that nomophobia was a fear of eating.

Specifically, a fear of eating Vietnamese rice noodles.

"Nomophobia" is an appropriate response to the question "Ey, you wan' more phobia?"

/ I'm apparently practicing my dad jokes

I've noticed most of the teenagers and younger kids in my town don't have phones like the kids did ten years ago. I asked a few why and they told me they don't want to be tracked by their parents so they refuse to use them. Many of them have a phone their parents gave them, but leave them turned off and at home.

There is hope for the next generation.

"++++carrier lost++++"

so no one's going to bring up the incorrect syntax?

The string is 'NO CARRIER'.  The '+++' was sent from the user to get into the mode to send commands to your modem if it supported Hayes commands

so you'd do '+++ATH0' to hang up.  If you got the random 'NO CARRIER' because someone picked up the phone, you'd usually get a lot of garbage characters before the NO CARRIER.

/used to work for DCR.net

I have the opposite. I become anxious when I have to pay too much attention to my phone, like if I'm waiting for a call to be returned. I turn it off a lot.
Texting used to be an issue, but I worked up to it.

When the datasuckers get done with you, you'll know I was right.
