Wait, why are we doing the NFL Power Rankings and not the ESPN ones we all know and loathe?

Because ESPN's rankings wouldn't match the headline?

Dunno, but (FWIW) the Ravens are #9 on ESPN's rankings.  And (FWIW) ESPN lists the Rams above the Chiefs

Some team capable of scoring at least a single TD in the last Super Bowl?

This is not THE Ranking thread. It can't be. THE CIRCLE MUST REMAIN UNBROKEN we can't just be like, ESPN for a decade and then one clear sunny day in September be like, oh, we're an NFL.com family now. NO

I don't think it is supposed to be anything "official."

Jeez, you greenlight one single alternate list, or say that one little old mayor will die, well then everyone loses their minds

Jets are too high.  I'd put them at 37 behind the Montreal Alouettes, but ahead of the Alabama Crimson Tide.

But surely you understand our frustration when, after a decade plus of ESPN Power Rankings threads every Tuesday during the NFL season, attached to beloved traditions like the GRAF, we might be a little peeved that a separate power rankings site pops up out of nowhere being greenlit here.

On top of which, there was that one year where, for whatever reason, the *YAHOO* rankings kept getting randomly greenlit before the ESPN ones, as if we were all just going to accept that without complaint.

There are certain things which are just far too important to remain silent on.

Two of the top three teams played each other, and ties are rare.

For the purposes of movement and for keeping people interested and outraged, you need to keep okayish teams with good records at the top.  Raiders, Cardinals, Panthers.  Then you troll with a better than their record 0-2 team: Minnesota.

Shove Dallas, New England, both New Yorks and Chicago at the bottom to anger the large fanbases and there you have it!

I thought it meant, "to move methodically," but I cannot find proof of that anywhere. I think someone used it a long time ago & it stuck.

Damn. I forgot that fark throws away everything I need to put this inline.

Oh well. Sharing once then throwing away the ESPN scraping code I guess.

The ESPN thread was submitted about 45 minutes ago, and hasn't yet been looked at by the admins for greenlighting.

Well, be fair.  (1)  This is NFL.com and (2)  It is Farkworthy that they put two teams that have lost half their games in the top three.

Arkanaut: Two of the top three teams played each other, and ties are rare.

Yeah, and the team that lost that matchup is ranked ahead of the one that won!

It's a joke going back to SB IV when that publicity whore Hank Stram said it when he was mic'd up on the sideline and everyone just kind of has gone along with it ever since.

Yeah!  And king of vegas' team are 2-1 against the Chiefs and Ravens combined in their last 3 games against those teams, so clearly it should be the Raiders.

Big Ben has a left pec injury, per the noon news today. So many injuries so early, and what's up with groins and boobies?

The fact that the NFL has power rankings, a parent umbrella company which should promote all of their teams equally, amuses me.

This is like going to a trade show and having a sales guy tell you that "yeah, those products over there, they all suck, don't buy them from us."

Now I wish NFL.com's power rankings were exactly the same, but it just said everyone was ranked #1 next to their name.

How much money would you put on the Chiefs finishing with a worse record than all of the teams currently 2-0?

* 49ers
* Rams
* Cardinals
* Buccaneers
* Panthers
* Raiders
* Broncos

You don't actually have to answer. I know your answer: you wouldn't bet anything. That's because you know taking a super-small sample and using it to generalize about ability is fraught with peril.

The Chiefs might have a worse record than the Bucs (I think the Tampa schedule is relatively easy this year)

I wouldn't be surprised by that outcome, but I specifically asked whether the Chiefs would be behind ALL of the presently 2-0 teams, not any single one of them.

Yeah I read that the way you didn't intend it and assumed any of the teams being ahead of the Chiefs was the bet.

The NFL season is so short that it's hard to get a valid statistical universe for team performance. They really need 180-game seasons like baseball.
