The episode they're referring to was an awesome listen. Good story about Norm being stubborn, and the OJ jokes that got Norm pulled from Weekend Update were hilarious.

Highly recommend the Conan Needs A Friend podcast on earwolf or wherever

So how does Norm fit into this?  Or why? I thought he was doing Shamwow! or QVC nowadays.

This should be pretty obvious at this point if you're remotely a fan of the guy.

Ohlmeyer was OJ's asshole buddy, which is why Norm got fired because he kept making OJ jokes, ie, doing his job as a comedian.

It's too late to ruin Ohlmeyer's life.
Can we dump all over him and humiliate his family and turn his memory into a pile of shiat, at least?
I LOVE cancel culture.

Late night & norm took great pleasure 20 years ago pointing out how big of an ass he was, and rightfully so.

biatching about a horrible boss isn't canceling anyone, in death or in life.

the whole debacle is an integral part to describing Norm's career arc.

Get over it.

Chairman of the Board

would otherwise be long forgotten by now, but it gave us one of the funniest talk show segments in history.  I guess it could be considered a success in that respect.

I recently read an interview with Cortney Thorne-Smith.  She also loved it. Likened it to Rickles poking fun at someone.

Saint John Cemetery Lafayette, Lafayette Parish, Louisiana is an historic site that Norm's fans in the area may want to visit, perhaps with a jar of lawn killer that can be drawn into the shape of a penis

the lesson is, get'em while they're still warm!
conversely, i'd never heard of Ohlmeyer before MacDonald's wildly untimely death, and NO one is defending him.  at all.  no love coming forward for old Ohlmeyer at all.  so maybe the lesson is, never be a shiat to someone who will one day die.
a hard lesson for indeed.

Yeah, it was a really good episode.

Conan retelling Norm's "lucky stabbing hat" joke from weekend update got a good laugh from me.

I love that Ohlmeyer's legacy is he is hated because he was OJ's friend and he got Norm fired. And he died in a plane accident.  That's all anyone remembers about him.

See, as a joke that didn't work, because you didn't support it enough.  You needed more to sell it.

The alternative being you were just being as ass asking in a thread about a person who a person is who's literally been all over Fark (not to mention the actual media) all week.  I mean supposing you somehow missed his existence in real life over the past few decades. You know. Because if you didn't know, Google is broken or something.

I did something similar with Grimes a few minutes ago though in another topic.  Hopefully it was apparent in my version that I was joking about Grimes being a nobody getting media headlines.  That approach is a tougher sell with Norm Macdonald.

It's the "cackling at the edge of madness" of Conan that gets me.  Like he's right on the verge of becoming The Joker.

The guy apparently had such a hard on for the way Norm dissed OJ that you'd think he was his boyfriend or something. He definitely took his position on the matter too far, and I'm glad Norm didn't get banned from late night, because his interviews with Conan were always gold.

Agree. Unfortunately, I then watched Team Coco's YouTube upload of that classic Courtney Thorne-Smith bit - and they censored Norm.  Fark 'em.

I'm in the minority, but I always felt like that interview came off as mean-spirited bullying and it prevented me from getting into Norn's humor in a big way. I don't understand the love.

To his credit, Carrot Top himself recently said he thought it was funny.

Of course Carrot Top sucks.  Who cares what he thinks?
