It's probably best not to teach controversial subjects. Never discuss religion or politics.

Which is the core fo the problem. The Ralph Reed disciples wish to do precisely that by turning our schools into Christian madrassas as they imagined existed a century ago.

Lying to kids is pretty popular in certain circles. Pointing out that lying to kids is wrong never seems to start a useful dialog. One side says "we need to talk about this" and the other side says "you need a knuckle sandwich."

I bet a lot of teenage anger and disassociation stems from the fact that eventually teens realize that they were being lied to.

This is going to be an unpopular post, but liberals are guilty of the same thing when it comes to public schools:

https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2021/03/should-black-lives-matter-agenda-be-taught-school/618277/

That's from The Atlantic, which is hardly a bastion of the hard right. Indoctrination should not be a goal of a public school education, whether religious or political.

Odd. My understanding is that The Culture really only openly fights wars in space away from planets to mitigate harm.

Now the Culture subverting your school to keep kids from becoming jackasses like their parents, yeah, that's how the Culture rolls.

I'd like to think kids to learn about unconscious and bias at an appropriate age.  Also, media analysis and critical thinking skills at an early an age possible.

I did it with my kids when they were as young as 5.  I used commercials and just asked them simple questions.  What is the commercial trying to do?  Do you everything the commercial says is true?  What do you think they are exaggerating?  You make the questions more complicated as they get older?  Not heard.  Great sense of accomplishment when you walk into a room and your kids are both talking about how a particular commercial is full of shiat (but not using that word).

Schools/parents should teach kids the skills necessary so when they hear, for instance, that black people target minorities, they can actually figure our that it is actually true.  And, when they here that cops are just doing their job, they are actually full of shiat.

Teach them how to see the truth - don't tell them what the truth is on social issues (you won't have to).

Agreed, but that's why the fights are so intense. Your idea of education will not necessarily line up with mine. Realistically, it almost never will.

It's getting worse because the Christian fascists realize somewhere in their lizard brain that they're losing power so they're trying to enact as much policy as possible before that happens. That's also why they tried to overthrow the election.

Was just hearing about this guy on the radio this morning. White students (100's) at Ole' Miss marched on his dorm, chanting for him to be brought out because he refused to wave the confederate flag after he joined the cheerleading squad. In 1982.

Leaving education up to the states was fine when we relied on whale oil to light up our houses at night.

Not so much anymore. The base level of education and critical thinking required to function in today's society requires a higher standard. Stupid people are holding society back. This is not a repeat from the last 10,000 years of human civilization.

No. No, they cannot.

Just a reminder that LOCAL ELECTIONS MATTER! We get so wrapped up in the national nuts like Trump and Mitch and Kevin. But the things that affect you everyone are because of local elections. There's an election every November - do you know what's on your ballot? City council or school boards or even library boards?

Take some time this weekend to make sure you're registered and look up your sample ballot online so you know who or what is up for a vote. Then vote! Vote every November, vote in primaries, vote in non-November elections. These jerks just assume that liberals don't vote in non-presidential elections and they take advantage of that. It has to stop.

This is, objectively looked at, about as racist as anything a white supremacy movement could come up with, because it directly implies that all of those things are "white." The New York Times had an article about anti-racism training that said expecting people to be on time for meetings was racist.

Self-criticism and self-reflection are signs of intelligence. One sentence summary slogans are not.

It's a good sentiment, but with the near death of local press, researching local candidates is far more of a challenge than most people are willing to undertake...particular for something like a school board member

Teaching children what ACTUALLY happened is not teaching children to hate their country or themselves. But it does give them the knowledge they need to make our country a better place for each other, the people that this country has systematically shiat on and abused, themselves and their future children.

Why wouldn't you want them to make America a better place for everyone that lives here?
