Good morning everybody. As usual, I am on edge waiting to see which Man Utd is going to show up. Also whether Fred inexplicably gets a start.

In other footie news, Jimmie Greaves has died.

In my childhood memory he was the first top flight English player to go and play in Europe, at a time when that was quite rare. I don't know whether that is really true, but it's how I remember him.

Team news.

Man Utd XI: De Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Maguire, Shaw, Fred, McTominay, Pogba, Greenwood, Fernandes, Ronaldo.

I'm happy to see McTominay back from injury, I think he's a talent and needs/deserves more playing time. Jordan Sancho drops out - I know it's way too early to be judging that project, but I haven't even seen signs of why Utd were so eager to sign him.

Fred inexplicably gets another start. And apparently, Donny van de Beek is still on the books. I still don't know why he was signed.

By the way, how weird is it that all three of Greavsie's former English clubs are playing today, two of them against each other?

"all" at this point might be just you and me. Maybe we'll get a few more closer to kickoff.

They were brought in before they landed Rapenaldo if I remember correctly.
So I guess there was a slightly different direction planned until that signing.
I think Bellingham's a lot better than Sancho & they went for the wrong player there

I'm awake, and glad the thread went green before kickoff this time :).

More important, how are the lovely ladies doing?

I just realized... if Brighton wins, they somehow move up to 2nd on the table (at least until/unless Untidy or Chelsea or my Spurs manage to get a win).

Gotta wonder if Ronaldo would have come back to United if he had seen these awful kits first.

Was that direction "mediocrity"?

I will exhale happily when Woodward's influence finally washes out of the system.

This is United's "we accidentally put bleach in with the shirts" strip. Still a step up from last season's "we accidentally washed the red shirts and the white shirts together".

Tribute to Greaves. Ronaldo's face says "I wonder if I will get a send-off like this, and how can I fake my own death in order to find out?"

Odds of Utd conceding a stupid early goal? Again.

I seem to have found a streamer who doesn't pipe horny naked people into pop ups this season.
In a way it's handy, as I don't have to start wading through a heap of new tabs opening up to tell me I've won an iphone or begging me to place a bet on something

I wasn't going to say that, but that's perhaps not far off the truth.
There are some quality players there, but they're very up & down in terms of performances.

Morning all.  Mildly grumpy with my new IPTV provider not allowing multiple streams, which means much less "Footy and rugby mornings".  But at least it still works

There really never seems to have been a strategy beyond "buy an aging star with a couple of years left in him who will sell a lot of shirts, and surround him with over-rated midfielders". Then everything turns on whether the star is feeling in on any given day.

And the number of "highly rated" players who have come and gone without leaving so much as a footprint is amazing. At one point during the Euros, I actually forgot that David James was still on the books.

When Pogba came back people said they were going to build around him, but they really didn't. The next transfer window is going to be really interesting, there is a lot of dead wood in this squad.

Untidy has been turned into a marketing and merchandising franchise disguised as a football club.

They have to keep Shaw though.
He is very good.
Even if he does seem partial to cakes.

Utd are having one of those days where they look good without ever looking threatening. West Ham have looked much more dangerous.

Yes. Shaw has come back remarkably from his low under Mourinho. At one time I would have put him on that list of "what happened to the player we thought we were buying?"
