Masks optional at the school where he's the principal

I'm going to guess not vaccinated as well.

Castaneda leaves behind a wife, Maria, and seven children.

Seven kids, that's pretty messed up.

The post states that he died as a result of COVID illness. This happened just as the family was getting ready to celebrate several major milestones.

Their oldest daughter was engaged to be married in a few weeks and their second oldest daughter is expecting to give birth to their first grandchild any day. One son is away serving a church mission. Three children still live at home.

Well the important thing is that he got to own the libs.

The movie Contagion (2011) predicted a LOT of what we're going through.

But it did not anticipate that a significant percentage of people would refuse the vaccine once it was created. Because that would be insane, right?

My recollection is that Mormons are required to have enough food, money, etc. on hand to last them a year. If so, why the GoFundMe? Was he a bad Mormon? Surely, his job paid pretty well and came with benefits. Is someone just grifting off this guy's death?

"Lasting a year" in most people's minds usually means living a year, not dying in it.

I had a Mormon neighbor who was always looking for converts, and I used to gently kid him.  He had 10 kids (all by the same poor wife) and proudly showed me his three freezers full of food in the garage.  "We're supposed to be prepared in case of a catastrophe."

I told him, "Oh, yeah, all the Gentiles know, 'Come the revolution, raid the Mormons first.'"

He actually looked a little worried at that notion.

Just his immediate family is a large pool of disease vectors.

Putting aside this guy's idiocy, remember to protect yourself and your loved ones.  The early days of this disease in the United States, when it was devastating major population centers and it was relatively safe in the sticks, are over.  It's spread to everywhere!  Even to your podunk little towns and cities.  The days of bravely posturing and claiming "I'm not afraid" are over, at least they should be.  You don't have to be afraid, but you should protect yourself an loved ones.

The math that you think you learned on sports betting and Vegas betting isn't sufficient, when you're dealing with a disease, and with millions of chances of it spreading.  If you understood the math, "you wouldn't go to Vegas with those odds."  Because there's no additional payoff for beating the odds.  You were alive before you gambled, you were alive after you gambled and won...  Until you lose against the odds due to repeated wages, and eventually you die, your family dies or get financially crushed.  You're betting your life, your families life and my life on the very weakest of payouts.

Words and math hard for you, that's alright, these things are difficult to visualize.  Take a look here instead.

Well it's not a question of whether to care, but in what way to care.

If he was vaccinated then you'd cursed and be sadden by his bad luck because he did everything he could to protect himself and his family, but he still died and that's a tragedy. If he wasn't vaccinated, you'd be angry at his stupidity because he did nothing to protect himself or his family so he died and his family is probably still at risk so that's infuriating. And soooo depressingly familiar.

so, not that unexpected.....

and yeah, he was unvaxxed, because if he was fully double vaxxed with moderna and died of covid anyway his family would be screaming about it.

when an article ( https://www.idahopress.com/news/local/caldwell-principal-dies-after-falling-ill-with-covid-19/article_b3992a0d-78e6-5f96-b299-0ed3145350a0.html ) say "his vaccination status is unknown" it means he's unvaxxed and the family doesn't want to talk about it.

but he first showed symptoms september 4th, and was dead by september 15th? that does seem a bit unexpected!

I wasn't at all sympathetic to begin with, however, even if I was, all sympathy goes out the window the second I see the words go fund me for 99% of things.

In my neighborhood some guy started a go fund me because his unlocked car got stolen, and he wanted the neighbors to help buy him a new one.

A teen down the street asked for help for a large vet bill he couldn't handle for his kitten - that kid I helped.

Yep.  And, anecdotally, I don't think I've talked to anyone that's opposed to it at church.  The closest is a lady that's immunocompromised who wishes she could get it.  There are certainly some oddballs but they seem to be the extreme minority.  Of course, that doesn't make for good news, so make sure to put the spotlight on the weirdos- that's much better ratings.

A few years ago I was way too relaxed while shopping at the grocery store and stopped to examine the nutrition label on a can of beets.  Looked pretty good, so I bought the can and ate them beets.  Not bad, really.  A little earthy, but full of flavor.  And full of red.

Later in the day I took a piss and while standing there, nearly shiat myself with momentary panic.  Turns out your kidneys just shrug at all that red and just pass it through.  Red, *red* pee.

A friend of mine passed this week from COVID also. We hadn't talked in a while (since the election really I think) as he was very Jesus-y and "both sides are bad" when it came to politics. And, I hate that I feel that way.
