It's sad that they can't even announce where it'll be splashing down because a bunch of idiots showed up that one time.  I'd announce it, and have torpedoes at the ready.

John Carter, of Mars.

No, USAF Col. Samantha Carter.  She's looking for another star to blow up.

Would also accept Sharon Carter, or her very hot aunt Peggy.

sno man: Nicholas D. Wolfwood: sno man: Carter Pewterschmidt: Why kill the thread with more comments and a direct link to the live video for a thread with a link to just an article?

This was greened 7 hours ago. Maybe you should have been looking in the greenlit tab?

Those of us not on TotalFark don't get to see in advance what's greened.  We just have to go with what shows up on the live tabs.

Carter does.

I missed it. I saw the other thread and it was green, so I posted there.

It's not a huge deal, I'll get over it, but I thought the other thread had the better link.

Okay, in this reboot, which one is the Thing?

Jared Isaacman is Reed Richards

Chris Sembrowski is Ben Grimm

Hayley Arcenaux is The Human Torch (young and fiery)

Sian Proctor is The Invisible Woman (sadly, because many people still have trouble seeing people of color)

Still gets me how futuristic the interior of the capsule is. The Apollo capsules looked strictly military, all grey metal, buttons, stencilled warnings etc. Dragon is like something out of 2001.

Yeah.  Crew Dragon was not only designed, it was styled.

Unless I misunderstand, it's probably the comms blackout due to hot reentry plasma around the capsule interfering with radio transmission and reception.

Standard for (I think) all/many returns of spacecraft. It's blocked by ionized air on the return craft.

Years ago I was watching online and my parents on the NASA cable channel and we were talking on the phone. Online was several minutes behind.

Radio broadcasts have been ahead of TV for football games for decades: the play ends on radio and starts on TV.

If they get Starship working in time, 2023?  Unless Maezawa-san has backed out. This link is a few years old.

https://www.cnbc.com/2018/09/18/spacex-japan-billionaire-yusaku-maezawa-first-tourist-to-fly-to-moon.html

I thought they were planning a dragon flyby of the moon as well?

long ago, there was a project called Red Dragon that was intended to be lunar and Martian capable, but it's been long since scrapped in favor of Starship

They were actually doing some experiments, one of which was monitoring radiation exposure at higher altitudes than the ISS. I'd think that would be valuable information for planned future trips a little further afield like say Starship to the Moon in a few years.

That experiment was already done over 63 years ago.
