It's sad that they can't even announce where it'll be splashing down because a bunch of idiots showed up that one time.  I'd announce it, and have torpedoes at the ready.

The Bestest: I'm late.. why the 7 minute blackout?

Unless I misunderstand, it's probably the comms blackout due to hot reentry plasma around the capsule interfering with radio transmission and reception.

Standard for (I think) all/many returns of spacecraft. It's blocked by ionized air on the return craft.

The Bestest: I'm late.. why the 7 minute blackout?

The heat from descending through the atmosphere creates plasma, which disrupts communications.

They were actually doing some experiments, one of which was monitoring radiation exposure at higher altitudes than the ISS. I'd think that would be valuable information for planned future trips a little further afield like say Starship to the Moon in a few years.

But not much to change the world.

Agreed.  I laughed at how they said they were opening up space for ordinary people.  Funny, I've yet to hear of Drew going up and taking three very lucky Farkers with him.

Again, you could say the exact same thing about the tenth or twentieth person to fly in an aeroplane. You think the Wright Brothers should have proved man can fly and then packed up and no one ever flown again? Or do you think flight went from Wright Brothers to Boeing 747s and affordable flight for everyone in one step?

Were there people in the 1920s saying "Rich people going on fancy trips! Will never change anything for the rest of us!"

I know at one point, Elon was talking about using suborbital launches for transportation.  That'd mess with the systems designed to detect nuclear launches, and would also get very ugly very quickly with hundreds of rockets crisscrossing on a daily basis.

They were actually doing some experiments, one of which was monitoring radiation exposure at higher altitudes than the ISS. I'd think that would be valuable information for planned future trips a little further afield like say Starship to the Moon in a few years.

That experiment was already done over 63 years ago.

Notice that it DIDN'T change until the airlines figured out ways to make the experience suck ass for the non-elites.
