"That was just a little frustration. That was a bad decision," McKay, 57, said about hanging up the handwritten sign. "It's just strictly the lease. Our lease was up after 40 years. ... Got old and got tired."

I'm an asshole who wanted attention.  Let's stop paying attention to these assholes.

$464,000 for that little restaurant?

I clearly did not request enough for my business...

So uh...where's the money?

And did it really make sense to lease that dump for 40 years instead of just buying it?

This. I'm especially tired of the farkwads who take government money and then biatch about the government doing something they don't like. "Goddam government that gave me nearly $500K just because, what the fark right do they have to tell me what to do?"

Feel free NOT to take the money, shiatstain. And in case it isn't clear, fark you. I'm so sick of these assholes.

"There is nothing political about it or nothing like that. That was just frustration. But, long story short, the lease was up after 40 years."

Bullshiat.  The sign was 100% political.  It was stupid, selfish, vapid, political, right-wing and generally low-brow...you know...re-publican.

My absolute anger for this restaurant manager notwithstanding, the Pine Cone in Johnson Creek is an absolutely FABULOUS place to eat.  Home made food, served in huge quantities, for a great price, with a great staff.

I have many pics of my 6 yr old twins at that place with cookies as big around as their heads. Absolutely wonderful place.  I've never eaten at the DeForest location.

The 'crick' (Johnson Creek) location is an amazing location, though.  Seriously, if you ever get a chance to go there, do it.

In wages, probably not. Depending on the lease, electricity costs, maintenance (it was almost assuredly a triple-net lease) costs, snow removal, et al. it could get up there fast.

However I'll tend to side with you that a fair chunk of that money was slid off to the side for other purposes.

That, by the way, is the dimwit who (at first) tried to blame those durty demonrats.

For business it is almost always better to lease than it is to buy.

You would be astounded by how many businesses do not own their building(s).

This guy was retiring after 40 years, and it looks like no one was interested in buying the business without a lease in place, so the restaurant will close.

Hmmmmm.  Quote from an employee might explain it !  Or maybe just a coincidence !

Suiter, 37, who was a bakery employee at the Pine Cone for the past year, said she doesn't know whether McKay used the PPP money to pay his staff, but said he employed his son, daughter and wife full-time this past summer, when in the past they would just fill in.

I know it's been a bit since I saw how suburban Madison unfolded but DeForest isn't quite "I work in Madison but I hate minorities" territory.  But if he's closing up and not doing something else, whatev

It didn't. In TFA it sd he got a loan in 2020 & another one this year.
The staff was told last Sunday at 2pm that A) the restaurant would permanently close its doors at midnight that night & 2) they were not to tell the folks who'd just arrived for their shift. They promptly told the other staff b/c they're not fetid buttcakes like the owner.

Kreist what an asshole.  Good for them.  I hope they all report him for hiring new staff with PPP money and tell whatever tale they think the traffic will bear to get the feds to come down on him like a ton of bricks.
