The Mariners have not made the postseason since that year.

Yup. Sounds like a Cubs game.

Meh, my Cubs fan friend has been rooting for them to lose for draft position since May. This was not unexpected.

CUBS= Completely Useless By September

it would be more on brand if they only scored 2 runs and had 10+ LOB RISP. thank the Maker for Frank Schwindel.

That was a great game.   Two days earlier, in an NL game, a player was berated for stealing a base when his team had a three run lead.  Then the Cleveland Cannons unloaded on the M's and everyone shut up.  Twenty years ago, you could not score too many runs in any game.

This Phillies team has to be one of the most annoying teams to watch in the history of baseball.

Thanks to WGN, I grew up in Texas as a Cubs fan. At this point, all I can say is "Cubs are gonna Cubs".

Zambrano ain't coming through that door!
Prior broke his arm trying to come through that door!
Wood tore his rotator cuff trying to work the water fountain before trying to come through that door!
Maddox signed with another team so he didn't have to try the door!

/I was hooked the first time I saw Dunston to Sandberg to Grace - a thing of beauty
//assuming Dunston could field it cleanly
///Let's play two (so we can lose both and get out of here)

Doesn't matter, the Cubs will spend all their remaining energy on trying to beat the Cardinals in their seven games against them.

It's not the first time this season that it's happened.

/at least the Cubs GM isn't Ryan Pace and they might manage to keep their top-10 draft pick

It marked the third time the Cubs blew at least a 6-0 lead, joining the ugliness from June 30 at the Brewers (up 7-0 after the top of the first).

They're a special team.

Cubs gonna Cub.

This is one of the reasons I like baseball.  It ain't over until it's over, as the saying goes.  Timed sports can have a whole meaningless quarter, or even a meaningless half, where it is neigh impossible for the losing team to catch up.  There sometimes comes a point where the winning team could literally walk off the field and the losing team literally couldn't score fast enough to win.

This never happens in baseball.  No matter how many runs down you are, it is theoretically possible to win at every moment until the final out.  On a practical level, the game isn't over a lot later than in timed games too.  "Garbage time" is fairly minimal.

Did they follow the unwritten rule of baseball about not scoring or bunting or hitting grand and slams when you're way up?
