(Twitter)   Trump and Trump, Jr. provided commentary during a boxing match last Saturday. So, I'm guessing the PPV buys were through the roof, right? Let's take a look... oh, oh my   (twitter.com) divider line

I'm interested to know if Trump did it for a flat fee or if he got a percentage.  I'm guessing flat fee, based on his bragging about the "obscene" amount he was being paid, but it's every bit as likely he thought it would do much better and bragged about his take before he knew what it would be.

He got a percentage of the theatre release.

150,000 buys for a PPV isn't the worst thing ever. However since most people find "other means" to watch boxing PPV i assume he got a flat fee. How much were they charging to watch that disaster

I think it was $50.

there's no way in hell either of them could pull that off.

On the sombre 20th anniversary of 9/11, the former POTUS spent the day providing color commentary on a PPV boxing event with his idiot son. Yeah, that's pretty on-brand.

This gives me comfort.  Because if you follow the news, or any media at all, you get the impression that a HUGE chunk of this country loves that dude.  But then we see an example like this, where actual evidence would show if it's true.  And the evidence comes back that, he is not loved.  Not anywhere NEAR the extent that the media would have us believe.

Things like this go beyond polls, or TV commercials, or talking heads on Sunday morning.  This is real people letting us know what they think.

Trump 2024 bought all the PPV, so he could top the NYT bestseller list.

But Trump sold more PPVs than that terrible bla President has ever sold. And how many PPVs has Jimmy Carter ever sold?

I love that they wrote this in a style mimicking some of Trump's trademark mocking tweets. If he ends up reading it that's sure to stick in his craw.

If they really wanted to make money on this, they would sell PPV to the excuses that Trump and Trump half-life will give as to why this wasn't the greatest thing since infected toe-jam.

There are, I think, 3 factors. 1/6 turned a lot of people off. Trump losing his Twitter took his ability to shoot little hate bombs to his people.

And Rush Limbaugh died. I don't know if that's really a factor, I just like saying it.

I wonder what other PPV events we can get them to whore themselves out for?  Jello Wrestling? Spelling Bees?  Bum fights?

I couldn't tell if that was really him or not but it took me about 10 seconds to deduce it was a stand-in:  way too skinny.

Excellent touch on the sh*tty-ass wardrobe though.

Most Presidents go on speaking tours or write books, not do PPV Boxing commentary.

Of course, most* Presidents aren't man sized piles of shiat either.

/*Andrew Jackson notwithstanding.

In this case, it was 150K buys for all linear and digital platforms, with a gross take of $7.5 million dollars.  According to reports, this didn't even cover the monetary awards for the contestants on the PPV and could possibly tank Triller.

I would mention an "in fairness" here - Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. are bigger names and bigger draws than anyone on that card - but why should anyone argue anything on behalf of Trump?

You'd think a beloved former President doing something so novel would attract a lot of eyes and dollars. Guess that guy is just as big a loser as his popular vote shortages would indicate.

You could buy the fight either with or without TFG** commentary. I wonder if the 150,000 figure is just the TFG** side or the whole thing combined?

Hopefully it was the whole thing, but it would be funny if the overall fight sold a million and only 150k of those were the special MAGAT edition.

I think it was $50.

This.  They made only $7.5M (155K x $50) which wouldn't even cover the purses let alone all the other expenses.  It is beyond a flop.

Knowing his past behavior with intentionally scheduling rallies on dates he was supposed to be debating, I'd guess he planned his schedule for this one for the same reason.

I streamed the sh*t out of that PPV.  They should book Vitor for elderly abuse after what he did to Holyfield.  Whoever let Evander fight is a greedy prick.  Usually I buy fights but I didn't need Trump being there to already know it was going to be dogsh*t.  And it was.

I almost want Barack Obama to do commentary for a boxing match just to see the PPV buys be 2000% higher

I don't agree. Plenty of people will treat Trump like a god, but won't watch a boxing match on PPV. Who even knows how to get PPV in 2021? Do you go to the "preview" channel and dial a phone number? Press buttons on an antique cable box? I'd have to subscribe to cable which I haven't had for over a decade.
