Maybe we should reduce their funding.

Oh, right, that's a terrible idea, we need to give them more money and Dave Grossman training seminars.

Really, you should put brackets around that name.  You can substitute and city in the country and the headline would be accurate.

Aurora is more visible and has higher numbers but a few rural county sheriff departments still enforce DWB as an offense. Park County and continuing West has almost no oversight.

He said Aurora officers every f*cking police department in the country had a "misplaced understanding" of de-escalation and focused more on calming down officers after using force rather than avoiding unnecessary escalation in the first place.

That sounds about right for Aurora.

Anything East of Colorado Blvd might as well be farking Kansas anyway, so they probably believe this is the mark of a properly functioning police statedepartment.

So in a town of about 64k very white people and around 600 POCs I would guess it would be clear there on how police interact with POCs. Still hoping for the wine from the area to improve.

Nuke the police dept and fold city enforcement duties into the county sheriff's office. This department doesn't deserve to exist.

There aren't enough federal employees to provide even the barest of oversight of all the departments that require it, if the DoJ ever got around to putting oversight in place.

Pretty much every county has a sheriff. LA County and the LA municipal area just happen to cover the same ground.

Go to rural areas, and some city cops won't leave the city borders. The county where my parents lived in Kentucky had the county seat, so they had cops. The rest of the 211 sq miles of the county were patrolled by two (2) state troopers.

Aurora doesn't surprise me. It seemed to always have crap going down there when I lived in CO.

As an Aurora resident, I can say they let em off lightly.  shiat, I'm an old whitey but I live in the wrong part of town to be treated like a whitey.
A few weeks ago, a cop tried to question me about entering my neighbor's house.
"I know this guy and you don't live here"

My response was "sorry, I must have missed you at the funeral."
Walked inside and slammed the door!
Asshole

I looked it up:

Aurora, Colorado - Wikipedia
duckduckgo.comhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aurora,_Colorado
The City of Aurora (/ ə ˈ r oʊ r ə /, / ə ˈ r ɔː r ə /) is a home rule municipality located in Arapahoe, Adams, and Douglas counties, Colorado, United States. The ...

Home Rule. I blame the Whites ... er, the Irish.

indy_kid: Pretty much every county has a sheriff. LA County and the LA municipal area just happen to cover the same ground.

No they don't.  LAPD abuses citizens within city limits, LASD abuses the citizens in the surrounding cities that contract for service, like Compton, and unincorporated areas.

I had the pleasure of sitting outside the Aurora UC Health emergency room one night last week for four plus hours.   Somewhat early in the evening I hear an exchange of gunfire not too far away to the South East.   Less than five minutes a SUV comes screaming up the roundabout with a teen or young adult woman who had been shot in the chest and the arm.    She was conscious and crying/wailing.    Nurses were called out and she was brought inside.   I hope she is OK now.

In any case, the Aurora police arrived a while later and talked with the staff.  One of the staff pointed me out as being a witness to the arrival so I talked with the police as well.    I mentioned that the poor woman was really crying and the two officers looked down and said 'they always do'.   They said this happens every night, and multiple times on weekend nights.   They seemed honestly dejected about the shootings and their inability to do much to prevent them.

Aurora is a large city, there are safe parts of the city and there are definitely not as safe parts of the city.

Not an excuse for cops to rough up (or worse) citizens though...

Well, Los Angeles County is much bigger than the city of Los Angeles. The LASD covers unincorporated areas, as well as a few cities in the county that don't actually have their own police departments (or got rid of them - Compton once had a PD, but the city disbanded it in 2000 due to corruption).

And what is going to happen from this report? Will the officers involved be fired or even better charged? Or will we just add this to the long list of evidence that the police are simply power tripping, mad dogs who need to be kept on a leash, while nothing changes?

We all already know the answer, nothing will come of this or if it does those disciplined will move a few counties over and continue their abuse of their positions of power unimpeded by anything as irksome as civilian oversight.

Fark the police and their police union terrorist supporters as well.

I lived for years within a couple blocks of Colfax both in Denver Mayfair and in Aurora across the street from Lowry.  Mayfair was super livable.  Clinton St was pretty scary from time to time.  A neighbor was a well known sex offender and APD seemed to love hassling him.  You don't see officers wearing their hats much in any jurisdiction but these guys would without fail for emphasis.  He was  a bad dude.  I met some real bad dudes in that neighborhood.  We'd play chess, tonk, dominoes and drink ourselves silly all the fing time esp during the Winter. Me the more or less solid professional hanging out with these thugs and Bloods.  I did not skate through those years unscathed but holy crap what a learning experience.  Fun times and some incredibly tragic events borne of inescapable poverty and racism.  Inescapable because it is enforced through things like those cop hats.
