As a Cards fan, I was never expecting a sweep of the Mets in Queens - outside of Wrigley, we've always sucked playing in NYC.

The Pirates winning two games over the Reds also was a big help - now as long as we get 2/3 against the Padres, we're in good shape for getting the last WC.

I just watched the 30 for 30 on the 86 Mets last night.   How did those guys play after drinking and snorting so much each night?

Congratulations of the sports equivalent of pistol whipping Helen Keller.

Think Stl will be fine even if they don't take 2 of 3 from SD. Here is the final stretch SD is currently being dragged through to close out the season:

@ Lad (3)
@ Sf (4)
@ Stl (3)
Sf (3)
Atl (3)
@ Lad (3)
@ Sf (3)

With both SF and Lad needing to win every game to avoid the WC, neither of those final series are likely going to be against backups. If they manage to go 10-12 I'll be surprised. I'm guessing they finish 2 spots out of the WC behind both Cin and Stl.

The Rrfs still have 6 games left with the lowly Buccos. The cards may be screwed.

Its been both this year.  They usually have their swoon in June so they are effectively sellers at the trade deadline.  This year they decided to tank in August, right after they gave up good future pieces for some 2 month rentals.

CSB (well, my brother's CSB)

The Mets came to St. Louis and it was Keith Hernandez's first trip back to Busch. At some point during the game, some guy yells, "Hey Hernandez! Don't snort the baseline!"

Well, the Nats fire-sale'd at the deadline and the Marlins are the Marlins. The division-leading Braves would be at least 5 games behind everyone in the AL East except the Orioles.

the barves are 5 back now based on record.  imagine how far down they'd be if they had to play all those teams 18 times instead of the 6 they got this year
