Umpire obviously thought he could control the weather, by making the grounds crew go away

Why would umpires have any authority over the ground crew?

Though they.kicked the organist out for Three Blind Mice in 1985

So, tossing the grounds crew off the field causes rain?  Should get them to those almond farms out in California and toss them off the farm so the almonds can get their much needed water.

According to the MLB rulebook, umpires literally have authority over anyone on the playing field.

So what's the post-ejection sanction for the grounds crew? Suspensions? Fines?

Did he officially eject them? or just tell them to get off the field? I could see an ump stopping play to get people off the field.  If he ejected them there must be some of the story were not hearing about such as a warning between innings that they ignored etc.

That's what I've been thinking all along.  I don't know that they were actually ejected, just chased from the field.

Umpires have authority over everything in the ballpark. They can eject fans of they want.
