Yeah, that's not even in the ballpark of remotely what TFA is talking about, subby.

2021-09-15 11:03:01 AM
When you get you ass handed to you in a campaign, bring called the leader of the CA Republican Party is an ironic booby prize.

2021-09-15 11:03:46 AM
Cillizza is so obviously desperate for attention it's pathetic.

When is he going to start making Tik-Tok videos from his middle-aged crisis Ferrari?

2021-09-15 11:05:17 AM
It would really be nice to have ONE (at least one) US-based news organization that deals with facts, nothing but the facts.

Failing that, at least make clear demarcations between factual reporting and completely garbage opinions.

I didn't get past this (FTFA):

Ask yourself this: Had you ever heard of Larry Elder before this recall campaign? Yeah, I thought so.

I love the smell of failed logic in the morning (before coffee, even).

2021-09-15 11:09:35 AM
Elder literally lost to "none of the above" on question 2

CNN's Chris Cillizza:

So much for "The Liberal Media"

you idiots.

2021-09-15 11:21:54 AM
suggests the Trumpist base of the party turned out for Elder. All of that means that Elder has a future in GOP politics in the state going forward

The Trump base turned out in droves and they still got trounced.

I like how that bodes for the future of GOP politics.

2021-09-15 11:23:39 AM
Has anyone told Chris Cillizza that Fox News is hiring?

2021-09-15 11:25:45 AM
Elder conceded, he's dead to the Trump base. If Chris Cillizza didn't have a clueless take he wouldn't have any take at all.

2021-09-15 11:27:47 AM
I am surprised that Nassar conceded and said to be respectful in the short clip of the speech I heard him give. Of course, he was probably taking the Dotard approach to the election. Give him free advertising, cause controversy, so he could grow his audience and line his pockets....not to actually get elected.

The what now?

2021-09-15 11:29:10 AM
it is worth noting -- as NBC's Alex Seitz-Wald did -- that Elder wound up getting almost 47% of the vote among almost four dozen candidates running to replace Newsom

Yeah it's totally worth noting that the Repliturds all glommed on to the most controversial candidate they could to stick it to the libs and turned out to vote as they always do.

But you don't present it that way, do you?

Well you've heard of LH Oswald now haven't you? I hear his name more and more.

Yeah, like, I feel gross defending CNN, but all TFA said is that this was good for Newsom, good for Dems, and good for Elder specifically in getting him name recognition.

2021-09-15 11:29:41 AM
All of that means that Elder has a future in GOP politics in the state going forward. (The LA Times suggested he had emerged as the"putative leader of the state's Republican Party.") All of which is a MAJOR win for Elder.

And a loss for republicans. The "putative leader" just got his ass kicked. Run him again. Run him 10 more times, who cares?

I believe that "smugly answering your own question in print piece" is one the most annoying things a journalist can do.

Zero surprise that Chris Cillizza does this.

Fix the stupid recall law.

2021-09-15 11:30:43 AM
FTFA: "That Elder, a conservative talk radio show host, emerged as the strongest Republican candidate speaks primarily to how incredibly weak the GOP bench in the state actually is."

I'm struggling to read this article and see where it is spelling bad news for CA Democrats.

He's trying to paint Elder as another Trump "outsider" who'll be back to fix our little red wagon.

Well, now far more people know what a terrible person Larry Elder is.  I don't see how that benefits him.

Except, that wasn't his take at all. It's like this headline was a test to see if people read the article. There is nothing in the article that says anything about it being bad news for Democrats in any way.

Can we just agree to never link to any Chris Cillizza articles again? His work is guaranteed trash.

I didn't comment on that, his take that Elder profits from this is wrong. Today's GOP doesn't acknowledge legitimate defeat they only lose when Dems cheat, that's the story and they're sticking to it. Elder will be seen as a traitor to the Trump cult.

Was this your first Chris Cillizza article? This is his M.O.

"I am going to throw this Devil's Advocate position out there but I'm not even going to bother to make a credible case to back it up. It's as if the only reason for this op-ed's existence to begin with is to get that Devil's Advocate position into the narrative."

Never, ever, read or watch anything attributed to Chris "buttery males" Cillizza.

There, I just saved you not only the click but a decent amount of sanity.

Elder is like a less charismatic Uncle Ruckus, without the eye.

2021-09-15 11:38:49 AM
I know this is Fark but I don't think that's what the article says at all. Seems like fairly standard political review.

Winners
Newsom: Duh
Elder: Higher profile (meh, but maybe arguable)
Polling: whatever
Dem Strategists: Tie every Repub to Trump. Duh.
C19 Competence: sure, but that doesn't matter. R Govs will continue to attempt to murder their base as quickly as possible.

Lovers
CA Recall Process: seems about right
Est Repubs: Probably
Caitlin Jenner: like she ever had a chance.

I'm guessing we either barely win or lose.

The Democrats seem to think it's about how much money you spend, and that's a mistake.

that gives Elder praise and advantage he really shouldn't have.

CNN is center right leaning corporate media that sells pharma and trucks in their commercials.

So he got 47% of 36%? Less than 20% of voters wanted him to be governor and that means he's some sort of political powerhouse?

What haircuts say doesn't matter. If we vote, we win.

The only observation that matters is there are fewer of them, but they all vote.

For the safety and sanity of the country the take that the major media should have at this California recall and other statewide elections that republicans lose is that the GOP REFUSES to moderate to even attempt to meet the majority of the electorate halfway.

That "Fringe right wing whackjob is serious contender in future" is not helpful to the state or the country in any manner.

The GOP needs to adapt or die.

2021-09-15 11:43:41 AM
Seems like a legit hashtag.   Yes Elder got more popularity from it, but most notably he got tied to Donald Trump, who didn't win in 2020.

2021-09-15 11:44:04 AM
Truth: It looks like about two-thirds of CA voters voted to keep Newsom. Which is even more than he was elected by in the first place.
Yet observe the headlines like  from the WaPo that makes it seem like he barely crossed the finish line.

/liberal media my a$$

2021-09-15 11:44:33 AM
Elder got 47% of the 36% votes cast for Newsome's recall.

Wow! That's a whopping 17% of the vote.

(sarcasm off)

17% is slightly higher than JD Vance's polling in the Ohio Senate Republiclian primary. (rolls eyes)

It's a postmodern world. The text has no inherent meaning, and the reader's subjective impressions are every bit as valid as the author's putative intent. Welcome to Fark.
