Oh, George!

I guess they didn't manage to hit the "1984 Walter Mondale popular vote" threshold, which I hear is a critical hurdle to surpass in order to win an election.

Oh myyyy!

The recall vote was lopsided in virtually the same proportion as all far-right partisan polls -- about 30-35%, the same approximate percentage as still supports Trump and the GQP.

And George Takei proves once again why he is a national treasure.

I understand that voter complacency is an issue, and why so many dipshiat Republicans (redundant, I know) have wormed their way into office.

But I know I read an article saying this recall election was a NECK-TO-NECK HORSERACE!!!   The media is always going to spin this narrative, but it seems particularly dishonest in this instance.

I think spending $4,200 only to find out you're 1/25th as popular as an outright lunatic stings a little.

It may have been a neck-to-neck horserace between Newsom and a generic Republican to be named later (and a pretty random assortment a month ago).  Change that to a straight up Newsom vs. Larry Elder and suddenly you get a landslide.

Best guess is that they weren't voting for Newsom, they were voting against Elder.

Or that cold calling landlines no longer has any correlation to voting at the polls.  Maybe American Democracy has finally made it to the 21st century.

It's almost as if killing all your constituents by convincing them to forego any self-preservation to appease the ego of a lunatic with a golden toilet backfired somehow.

Odd.  It was so well thought out

I guess it was about 8 or so years ago, Uncle George was staying at my hotel. I was doing some paperwork at the front desk and looked up and suddenly there was a short spry elderly Asian dude bubbling with energy looking for dinner recommendations for himself, Brad, and one of his Allegiant buddies.

That's it basically. My brush with fame.

Still mad at myself for not going with the FD manager when Sully checked in one time. I was one of the supervisors that evening, so I could have used that as justification.

John Lithgow is oh wowsa tall.

Didn't see either Clinton or Lara Bush when they were there.

Leslie Jordan ... Well, he was there, but i couldn't see him in the crowd. But certainly heard him.

That's everyone that comes to mind that stayed onsite.

Oh, there was that dude ...famous in the 80s for playing a sitcom doctor dad. I hear he got in trouble or something recently.

I sat one table away from Jamie Farr in a Nathan's hot dogs once.   Another time I sat one table away from Sam Donaldson and Diane Sawyer in a fancier NY restaurant.  Farr acknowledged me, and seemed glad I didn't bother him with more than a friendly nod. Donaldson was talking so constantly that Sawyer and the third person at the table, Jeff Greenfield, couldn't get a word in.  It was some long rant about how Greenfield could better his career.

I've also had a bunch of run ins with KIDS of celebrities, but that's different.

I really love how Mr. Takei has gone from a person who we put in a camp as a child due to acute racism and jingoist bullshiat to being a living national treasure loved by hundreds of millions.

Stuff like that is pretty cool.
