Other toys designed by Klamer include the original Fisher-Price Preschool Trainer Skates, the Art Linkletter Hoop, Gaylord the Walking Dog, Moon Rocks, Dolly Darlings, Erector-Constructor Sets, and Busy Blocks and Zoo-It-Yourself.

I thought Erector Sets were the American version of Meccano.

Doesn't that game teach kids that:

1. They are failures if they are not rich when they are old?
2. They must get married and have two kids and buy a home?
3. Probably other such things?

I just played the new version last weekend with the family.  You don't need kids to buy property.  Also, the bonus for finishing first is huge, so everyone ends up pretty much the same in the end unless you consistently get really bad rolls.  It's really just a more sophisticated version of Uno.

The original Checkered Game of Life, that Klamer's Game of Life was supposedly an homage to, was pretty brutal.  There were spaces like Poverty, Ruin, and Disgrace.  You could land on another player to send them to Jail.  Going to Prison (separate from Jail) would make you lose a turn.  And landing on Suicide would eliminate you from the game.

Appropriately, Prison was one of two spaces on the board where a bad roll could force you to Suicide.

It's also overwhelmingly open-minded & affirming about same-sex marriage & parentage, which is pretty cool.

It's also got a very nice "this shiat is mostly random ups & downs so you may as well keep rolling the dice til you reach the end" feel, so I'm into it.

I had the 90s version where you automatically got married, automatically got a house, and had to try to not retire a millionaire. Also, all the Life tiles were for conceivable things, like running for mayor.

A friend had an older version where the tiles were for cartoonish things like "Capture escaped lion." I had heard from my parents that if you ended below a certain money level in an older version, you had to retire to "the poor farm."

Whenever I play that game with my kids we always take the route where you get a bunch of kids but try to not get any kids at all.  If you make it out with 0 kids you instantly win.  It's called "Running The Baby Gauntlet".
