I wasn't a fan of this series until the Dr Strange episode. That one is by FAR the best one. Zombies is a distant second.

I'm not sure about this one... We'll see where it ranks later.

Zombies was bad. Completely overdone concept, executed pretty meekly. I liked 3 a lot (death of the avengers) and 4. But zombies is distant last to me despite 1 and 2 both being lackluster.

This episode was essentially a bunch of "Curse Your Sudden But Inevitable Betrayal" moments strung together.

Apparently in a totally magically made up world, a rich white man will still only keep around one black friend.

I wonder where they are going with this character. This episode was more of a 'Introducing ... Will he or Won't he ... ?' rather than a 'What If ...?'

The heck with that... I want an episode of pure Andy Serkis Ulysses Klaue. That guy is my evil hero.

I wish they had kept him around as a recurring villain in the MCU. He was so much fun.

What If.... Has definitely been the worst Marvel content this far. Movie or TV. I'm still not even sold on the the animation style.

Every time we see T'challa it feels like he's saying  goodbye. I love Killmonger and Klaue both. This wasn't my favorite episode but once the action shifted to Wakanda, I was sold.

The stories are good, or at least have potential. The issue is they all have such a short running time, so everything feel very rushed. Also, to be frank, the voice acting isn't that great. I said this in another thread, but it's becoming somewhat obvious that live-action acting is a much different skill that voice acting. Not everyone is bad, but not everyone is good either

I just came here to say that although I really enjoy most marvel stuff, this kind of sucks.

They've been fun to watch, but I just wish not every episode was MCU based.  Disney has the rights back to pretty much everything except F4.  Give us Wolverine killing Hulk.  Show us Punisher as a SHIELD agent.  Or Xavier as Juggernaut.

I enjoyed it well enough. Working an overnight job it's nice to come home at 5am and see that Disney has already uploaded their content. None of that wait until 10am or whatever crap.

Yeah, I want to like this show.  I like the animation style and concept.  But most of the stories have been lame re-tellings or mashups of the movies.  There is no reason they can't bring in other characters we haven't seen yet.  Marvel has most of their characters back, so use them!

Djimon knocked it out of the park. I really want to watch video of him recording those lines, because it sounds like he went full fanboi in the booth. The most unexpected and entertaining character so far, imho.

They should have Michael B. Jordan take on the role of T'Challa.

I keep deciding if What If...? is worth a watch. I watched the first episode and was crazy underwhelmed. Doesn't seem like it'll matter in any long term MCU capacity, and the overwhelming consensus seems to be MEH.

Most of the voice acting sounds like when someone uses a movie quote soundboard to make a video

Tbf, that's the MO of the "What If...?" comics too for the most part if I'm remembering correctly

That's kind of the point? I mean, this is the MCU so of course they're going to do MCU "What Ifs...?". You may as well be wanting a "What if Batman's mom's name wasn't Martha?" storyline

And "What If..." is re-tellings/mashups of older stories. Again that's kind of the point, what if these stories you know didn't go exactly like they did. Whether they're lame is up for debate, but again it's kind of the point of the series

You're basically asking 'What If we didn't make any more live action movies and did it all as a cartoon series from now on', which is dumb to want.

Where the fark are you getting that from?  All I want is for them to expand What If beyond the live-action movies.  The examples I cited were actual What If comic issues over the years.  They don't have to do those specific stories, just make use of everything they have at their disposal.

I wish the episodes were longer as well in the case of the good ones.  Episode 1 felt particularly rushed.  They remind me of the last season of Game of Thrones, where they're just rushing to get through the story beats they want to hit.

I'm enjoying the season for the most part.  I'm chalking up the zombie episode to general zombie burnout.  The rest are at least ok to enjoyable concepts, though execution is a bit hit and miss.  I feel bad for the people who do well live acting that are struggling with the voice acting.  This has been a real eye opener for me just how much voice acting must be a way different skill set.

Thank you. This is probably the biggest disagreement between me and the Missus for the What If episodes. We had given up on The Walking Dead after the Big Long Coral Goodbye, but she loved that episode. I thought the Zombie episode was just another TWD episode, and, lo and behold, who wrote the original comic....?

Some of the eps are weaker than others. And the rumors are that it definitely will matter for Doctor Strange 2.

The best part being he was entirely mercenary. There was no moral entirely evil or entirely good with him. He was making bank and having a farkton of fun with it.

/ may be somewhat sympathetic to mercs.

Yep.  I wouldn't have him as the lead villain in any movie, but having him periodically show up for one or two scenes just to be a pain in the ass would have been so great.

Most of these episodes, except for the Dr. Strange one, have felt like they were written as comic books that were supposed to be part of a multi-issue story arc, but we're only given the 1st issue.

Considering it seems like we've repeatedly seen a certain one-eyed and tentacled entity that is known to semi-regularly conflict with Strange's plans AND we're seeing repeated multiversal implications, I believe you're correct that What If... is at least tangentially relevant to the upcoming Multiverse of Madness flick.
