That would make him the first player to ever be inducted without winning a single game

But does that include fumbling inside the 10 on the winning drive?

Hey, Las Vegas. You want revenge for Snow Bowl? The Patriots have the Curse Cloud up again.

This is right in line with Bill Simmons picking a Patriots-Bucs Super Bowl this year before the regular season even began.

As a lifetime Pats fan, I remember how the writers were big on Tony Eason to replace Steve Grogan.

Who and who you ask? Exactly.

I remember Eason because he was the starting QB in the 85 Super Bowl and played at SMU during the Pony Excess days. He didn't actually have that bad of a career.

1. No, The Globe article does not mention HOF.  At all.  Regardless of what HOF means to you.  He will not turn into David Hasselhoff no matter how badly you want this.
It explains the Vegas odds for him to be rookie of the year.  And yes, this is premature, much like subby would be at the mere sight of David Hasselhoff.

2. Jones played a good game for a QB drafted 5 months ago.  He's currently on the Alex Smith tier but we should soon expect a Bledsoe-like tier of "we know what great things he can do but he doesn't always do it."
I hope we can get there and surpass it quickly.

/He spiked a pass backwards.  I don't think I've ever seen that and I don't think we ever will again.

Derp, I'm getting my SMU QBs mixed up. I was right about the 85 team though.

There is only one team that could possibly allow that guy to succeed, and he happens to have been drafted by them.

He would have to get the Pats to the Playoffs and actually win at least one Playoff game this season to clinch ROY. I highly doubt this team does better than .500 this year. Getting into the playoffs against Buffalo and Miami? That's not happening. I would never back Mac for ROY.

Betting sites are going to feast on all the New Englanders throwing money on this bet.

Eh. 28-23 with an 80 rating. His stats were slightly better than Grogan's, which were mediocre.

It's also not all that far-fetched.  It's a QB centric league, so any QB automatically has an advantage for things like ROTY.  Out of the 5 first round QBs, 2 aren't even starting yet, 1 plays for the Jets and looked bad in week 1, and 1 plays for the Jags, didn't look terrible, but the team played so poorly there's already speculation that the coach may bail back to college.  Meanwhile Mac Jones had a respectable first start and looked promising.

Things can certainly change.  It's only 1 week.  Some of the rookie receivers looked pretty good.  It always takes some time for defenders to start standing out (unless some rookie pulled a Chandler Jones-like performance that I missed).  The Bears will only get away with starting Dalton for so long especially if they keep teasing them with Fields playtime.

I mean...odds of winning anything have to be posted prematurely. It's a bad business model to only put up gambling odds once something has been decided.

I'm going with 10-7. I don't know about the playoffs, but they'll have a winning season. Also, while looking at the schedule I noticed my 15th wedding anniversary falls on the same day as the Patriots - Bucs game. Late game, though, so maybe I get lucky. And then watch the game after that.

I don't see why people are down on the Pats. Rookie QB came in and had the team a fumble away from beating a 10-win team from last year.

Outside of the AFC West (wow, both West divisions went 4-0 in Week 1), there are four AFC teams that won last week. New England could easily beat Miami (almost just did). The Texans suck, just not as much as the Jags. The Steelers will fall off as Ben deteriorates throughout the season. The Bengals aren't gonna make the playoffs either. In the West, you can count on at least two of these things happening: Chargers gonna Charger, Raiders gonna Raider, and the Broncos not actually being good.

Why would I believe the Pats can't make the playoffs? They were mediocre last year with Cam Newton's corpse under center and their whole defense not playing due to COVID.

Never thought I would be defending Tony Eason, but I think he could have been better with better coaching. Ray Berry got the least out of the talent on those 85-87 Patriots.

John Hannah gave a talk at our school after he retired and threw the rest of his team under the bus in front of a crowd who had just watched him whiff every block in that game. Turns out one of the two tight ends in a two-tight-end offense got hurt and somebody forgot to bring a backup and then blamed the whole mess on drug abuse he had known about all along and somehow failed to report.

Thank God nobody in New England remembers any of that.

He's alright on the radio talk show, he's unique in Boston radio in that he doesn't troll the fans.

He really shines as a color commentator for the games.  His show ponies call was legendary.  He enthusiastically interrupts Bob Socci doing the play by play.  He's not always a homer in his commentary, he'll credit good football plays even when it's the other team that makes them.

This last game, he was reading the defense and confidently predicting who the open receivers would be... and he was wrong, every time.  Exhibiting the same kind of talent he had as a QB.  But still a fun listen.

\even 1st time around Flutie

//Flutie and Bleier were sca... replacement players.  Like Coy and Vance Duke.

We can indeed; that was the season we had so much fun we got together afterward and decided "That was actually TOO much fun; let's never do that again."  And so it came to be.
