I was at the CA state capitol when Trump was declared the loser. There was a small MAGA rally at the steps and an angry voice over a PA, and a few Trumper trucks rolling coal on L St., yelling at peds. Peds were mostly ignoring or laughing at them which just made em madder and gun their engine. I have video of this.

Yes, and FAUX News called AZ for Biden before the polls closed. The real results are still pending with the AZ audit results due any day now.

Dems have perfected the art of wining elections without a need for voters ...

There's is no fixing our voting system. We've seen enough to know it's all about who can cheat the most and has the levers of power and connections to cheat the best wins. The Left has spent decades building their system within the voting system. Heck we've even caught them at it and it has done absolutely nothing....and year after year they just fine tune it more.

Also, It's about who owns the most- the dems own damn near everything- the courts, the police, the military, big bunsesses, the msm, lawyers, judges, heck they even own the SC-

Well, geez. I'm not even a big fan of "Cali" and I'm super mad at the person who came up with the word "Cali" -- spent a lot of years there -- lived a couple of years in L.A. and it's a whole different ecosystem.

I have a story about ripping apart a rotisserie chicken at a picnic in a graveyard, while watching classic movies being screened on the wall of a mausoleum -- everyone there was horrified, but they still ate the chicken -- even the guy with the weepy eye.

Like I said: It's an entire different world over there, so I'm not sure what I was expecting from you Californians, but on the whole I'm proud of you. Good job.

Cyberluddite: johnny_vegas: TwowheelinTim: Northern CA starts at the Sonoma line

Reasonably you should be right, but most Californians don't feel that way

There is a simple test to determine whether (culturally at least) an area is considered Northern or Southern California, and that's this: Are most people in the area Giants fans, or Dodgers fans?  For the areas that are in the Central part of the state, the answer to that question invariably determines which side of the NorCal/SoCal divide it falls on.

For example: Santa Barbara is clearly SoCal, and it's obviously full of Dodgers fans.  Just up the road in San Luis Obispo, however, they think of themselves as part of NorCal, and everyone there roots for the Giants.  Similarly, in Fresno they're Giants fans, and Fresno is deemed NorCal, but the next shiathole to the South, Bakersfield, is clearly SoCal and so everyone there is a Dodgers fan.

This is a universal truth, there's no denying it.

(There also happens to be a similar line somewhere in Oregon, a little north of Eugene, where everyone to the south roots for the Giants and everyone to the north roots for the Mariners, but that's a different topic because we're talking about California here.)

This map puts the dividing line for fans right in the middle of SLO county.  Probably pretty true since the city is halfway between LA and SF.  I am skeptical of it though because it shows some weird area where there are Angel fans, but I've never seen one in real life, ever.

Duck_of_Doom: Quick and Dirty: I have a story about ripping apart a rotisserie chicken at a picnic in a graveyard, while watching classic movies being screened on the wall of a mausoleum -- everyone there was horrified, but they still ate the chicken -- even the guy with the weepy eye.

Frankly, that sounds awesome. Who wouldn't want to do that? Please say you were watching things like Dracula, or Frankenstein, or Night of the Living Dead.

All I know for sure is this: It was date night -- the wife and I were hosting her best friend and the date for her night. I had been drinking lots of wine and vaguely remember someone handing me a rotisserie chicken and a plastic knife -- like I was supposed to cut that poor bird with a plastic knife.

Me being a good-ol' boy, I just remember tossing that "knife" and laughing with glee while I drew & quartered that thing with my bare hands, and handed thighs & breasts to everyone sitting there on the picnic blanket; with their organic potato salads on their paper plates as a side.

It was actually kinda' romantic, looking back at it...

The one thing I learned from that night is to never have a rotisserie chicken at a graveyard picnic in Hollywood, because I didn't live that scene down for years.  :)

Weird; our one state is 12% of the United States population, and Caitlin Jenner probably came in like fifth place.

Your state needs to divide itself into three states, one centered around SF, one centered around LA, and one centered around SD.

That way 12 percent of the population ends up with at least 12% of the senators, instead of 4% like right now.

But that's not the plan the conservaturds keep pushing. They want to keep the 3 cities in one state. Then create 2 new red states with all the other areas. Like they did years ago by creating South Dakota to create a new red state.

Well aware of that.

I'd still like to see it done this way though, because when it comes to why states should be divided, it should be based on fixing problems with proportional representation due to extremely uneven population counts.

HEY. These acres of emptiness in SD have a right to be hearrrrrrrrrrd! Typical libnutz.

I've placed a star where SLO is. That roughly horizontal line above it is the county border. So your map also places pretty much all of San Luis Obispo county is Dodger territory, which makes sense since it's in the Santa Barbara media market, and all its stations broadcast from either Santa Barbara or Santa Maria.

Now what?  This recall was a lopsided victory for Newsom.  The CA GOP have practically handed him next year's campaign commercials.  They're now identified as a Trump party because of their embrace of that chucklehead Elder, instead of someone more mainstream CA GOP like Faulconer.  In a diverse state like CA, why would they do something like that?

Maybe there was election fraud. I find it hard to believe that 33% of Californians are death cultists. But I've never been there myself, so.

The rural parts of the state tend to be just as red as any red state, especially the far north and the Central Valley.

In fact, if you drive down any major highway in the Central Valley, you'll likely see several "Congress created dust bowl" signs, arguing that the California drought is a hoax intended to put hardworking farmers out of business so that they'll have to go on welfare and become Democrats.

There is at least some basis to their claims - they argue that less water should be set aside for wildlife / fish preservation in the delta. In dry years currently, environmental uses (species protection and salinity standards) are allocated about 60% of delta inflows.

As a Central Valley resident, I'd like to point out that Congress appropriated the money for the Central Valley Project, and the Army Corps dams that time releases with the growing seasons, and the Bureau of Reclamation projects, and the levees, and a lot of infrastructure to move water south where it's sold to the contractors at below market rates.

If Congress also says we have to keep the Delta alive, that's their prerogative.

That's actually not true at all - it doesn't matter a whit who paid for the projects. The EPA oversees the rule-making process that determines what water can be used, and their rulings carry every bit as much force over state and local projects as federal projects.

And that doesn't address my point at all: It is a decision to use the amount of water we use. I think it's generally good science, but it is a decision we have made. The farmers with their highway propaganda are arguing against that decision - not "arguing that the California drought is a hoax" as was claimed above.

It turns out all of us are right

Says the guy from California...  America is a Republic.  The states are somewhat allowed to do as they want.  California can elect whoever they want.  I live in Illinois and Wisconsin and what California does means zero to me.  What possible reason why would I give a rat's ass as I have never even been to California and have no plans to do so?  This has no effect on my life whatsoever.  Should I care because the media has been obsessing over it?  They also obsess whenever the east coast gets a snow storm...  ...in winter of all seasons.

Is this an explanation that you REALLY need?

So farmers, who are inherently on welfare because of farm subsidies, will go out of business and go on a different form of welfare?

fark off

Sorry, does the nooby gen have a new letter? I came out in '77 and transexuals AND transvestites both responded to 'trans'. Wich new phrase are you preferring for 'woman born in a man's body'? Serious, titles change. When I was a child in the early '60's, 'colored' was the term that became 'black' in late 60's that became 'African American' which has brought bacl 'Black' with capitol  B.  Honestly not trying to be offensive, just old enough to have seen that each generation needs it's own definitions of sub culture. Have been friends with all labels, prefer 'humans' myself but was politically 'Gay' and 'Dyke in my late teens, 20's. By 30's just getting tired of all labels, just seem like more wats to 'divide and conquer'! Now, at 63 I wiah we could dump 'red and blue states' (thanks Bush, Cheney' and get back to being 'Americans' with 2 main parties. I DO know that this generation considers their incorrect birth gender name as their 'dead' name (their term) and physiologically, hormanl and surgically changed Caitlyn has never competed in Olympics and has publically denounced her life (except for the medals) of Bruce.

According to CalMatters, Larry Elder got 43.4% of the vote on Question 2, which trounced everyone else, but doesn't matter when 67.1% voted no on Question 1.

Also, it looks like 47.3% of voters left Question 2 blank.

I thought leaving it blank meant that they wanted Newsom anyway? Or am I not remembering the Calvinball rules of California recalls correctly?

Leaving it blank was an option, but only if you voted no on the recall.

Which makes me wonder how many GQP voters voted yes on the recall but failed to select a candidate.

I'm looking at the ballot right now and this is not true.  It states "The recall question contains two parts.  You may vote on both parts or on just one.  Either way, your vote will be counted".

What did I write that was not true? Your statement refutes nothing I wrote. Maybe you should go back and read it.

You would like to throw out the First Amendment and make lying a crime. Did I understand that correctly? When Trump was in charge of the executive and directing the FBI and US Attorneys, you would have liked it if he would have determined who was lying and charge them with felonies.

Or did you mean just on the state level? Like, you think Alabama's elected officials should be able to determine who is lying and charge them with a felony. You know Juries decide what the facts of the case are, right? So you're okay with an Alabama jury deciding whether or not someone is lying about covid's existence.

I see no flaw in this plan. It's a shame this country has no history with a 'Sedition Act' that does something similar so you could just read about how that kind of thing would work out.

Oh, I see you missed "Angelyne" who goes by just one name.

I honest to God wish I had voted for Angelyne, just to tell everyone I did. My grandad (RIP) claims he voted for Gary Coleman (RIP).

I wrote in Frank Zappa in the election that Gray Davis won.

Instead they went the Trump route and backed some hack talk show host.

A moderate would have no chance.  Who would vote for him?  Republicans would throw their votes on a MAGAt and dems would still vote no on the recall.  Schwarenegger was a unique case.  Gray Davis was taking the heat for the energy crisis (which we later found out was all Enron shenanigans) and Shwarzenegger was a well-liked known quantity that people trusted.  There wasn't anyone the republicans could have put up that stood a chance.

The best part of 2003 was watching Darrell Issa crying.

Now he's ranting about school choice.

What the "school choice" proponents won't tell you is that it favors the wealthy...vouchers won't pay full tuition at most private schools in CA; it just reduces the cost for the wealthy.

Fark that, people absolutely had a right to be upset at him.  That was a monumental lapse in judgement and shows how out of touch most career politicians are with the electorate. That event was not in any way a reason for the waste of time and money of a farking recall though, or am indictment of his gubernatorial actions during the pandemic.

Western Coloradoans where I live tried to recall Gov. Polis a couple years ago. It turns out being a gay Democrat didn't fetch enough signatures as they wanted it to. Never got the ballot. I had a great time on Facebook with my local MAGAts after that.

FarkingChas: TWX: mofa: As a Californian, I'm beginning to unclench. Fortunately, Larry Elder was the front-running Republican, and many people in California HATE HIM. I'm pretty sure he helped suppress Republican recall votes.

I'd still like to see it done this way though, because when it comes to why states should be divided, it should be based on fixing problems with proportional representation due to extremely uneven population counts.

kelderiv: Claiming election fraud with no evidence needs to be a felony. I'd be ok with it also being considered sedition. There needs to be consequences for lying. Big ones.

Maybe there was election fraud. I find it hard to believe that 33% of Californians are death cultists. But I've never been there myself, so.

The rural parts of the state tend to be just as red as any red state, especially the far north and the Central Valley.

Two hours outside of any major city is Alabama, this is true no matter what state it is.

Notice the republican shill giving Elder a free pass on his hatred of disabled people and other horrible positions.

Just like he went well out of his way to give the insurrectionists a free pass on  January 6th.

As a minority, I'm a little ashamed and embarrassed that Larry Elder ran on the platform he had, and as a Republican. I'm glad he lost, despite me knowing the many flaws that Newsom has. The Republicans seems to want to run the worst candidates, then cry voter fraud when they lose.

Which is why I'd bet that in 2024, the Republican Presidential nominee will be someone shiatty, like DeSantis. Then when he loses, the GOP will scream that the vote was rigged against them.

In fact, if you drive down any major highway in the Central Valley, you'll likely see several "Congress created dust bowl" signs, arguing that the California drought is a hoax intended to put hardworking farmers out of business so that they'll have to go on welfare and become Democrats.

According to CalMatters, Larry Elder got 43.4% of the vote on Question 2, which trounced everyone else, but doesn't matter when 67.1% voted no on Question 1.

Also, it looks like 47.3% of voters left Question 2 blank.
