According to CalMatters, Larry Elder got 43.4% of the vote on Question 2, which trounced everyone else, but doesn't matter when 67.1% voted no on Question 1.

Also, it looks like 47.3% of voters left Question 2 blank.

I thought leaving it blank meant that they wanted Newsom anyway? Or am I not remembering the Calvinball rules of California recalls correctly?

You're stupid if you actually think that.

Says the guy from California...  America is a Republic.  The states are somewhat allowed to do as they want.  California can elect whoever they want.  I live in Illinois and Wisconsin and what California does means zero to me.  What possible reason why would I give a rat's ass as I have never even been to California and have no plans to do so?  This has no effect on my life whatsoever.  Should I care because the media has been obsessing over it?  They also obsess whenever the east coast gets a snow storm...  ...in winter of all seasons.

Because Diane Feinstein isn't going to finish her term and the Governor picks her replacement until the next federal election.

Leaving it blank was an option, but only if you voted no on the recall.

Which makes me wonder how many GQP voters voted yes on the recall but failed to select a candidate.

I'm looking at the ballot right now and this is not true.  It states "The recall question contains two parts.  You may vote on both parts or on just one.  Either way, your vote will be counted".

Maybe there was election fraud. I find it hard to believe that 33% of Californians are death cultists. But I've never been there myself, so.

The rural parts of the state tend to be just as red as any red state, especially the far north and the Central Valley.

In fact, if you drive down any major highway in the Central Valley, you'll likely see several "Congress created dust bowl" signs, arguing that the California drought is a hoax intended to put hardworking farmers out of business so that they'll have to go on welfare and become Democrats.

There is at least some basis to their claims - they argue that less water should be set aside for wildlife / fish preservation in the delta. In dry years currently, environmental uses (species protection and salinity standards) are allocated about 60% of delta inflows.

The long term view should face the reality that climate change makes farming as it exists in California today, temporary, but destroying the delta's ecology is permanent.

If you voted "yes" for the recall, but left the second part blank, it meant that you wanted Newsom recalled but didn't want him replaced by anyone. Since there was a field of some 43 Republican candidates to choose from, not picking someone is either a pretty damning statement against all of them, or means that all those Republicans can't read.

I was at the CA state capitol when Trump was declared the loser. There was a small MAGA rally at the steps and an angry voice over a PA, and a few Trumper trucks rolling coal on L St., yelling at peds. Peds were mostly ignoring or laughing at them which just made em madder and gun their engine. I have video of this.

Exactly. Point and laugh.

Newsom won pretty much by the statistical percentages of the ideological divide in the country. It was the 30% of Trumper sycophants who voted for Elder. Just shows that the majority of Californians did not support the recall effort, and it was just political theater by the right to try to muck up the system. The only reason Elder is not breaking out the "vote was rigged" narrative is his loss was too big, and he would undermine his career as a huckster. It also would undermine the whole claims of rigged election strategy as merely Chicken Little syndrome for other contests.

The tactic to undermine society through claims of voter fraud in other elections would be hurt if Elder continued with his claims. Some GOP donors probably met with Elder and explained the situation to him with greenbacks.
