Nothing quite like realizing that all your worst fears came within a heartbeat of coming true...

And the GOP wants to put him back in power.  What complete idiots.

Tinpot dictator did tinpot dictator things.

Those of us who saw him for what he was in 2015 (and years prior) are completely unshocked.

Those who still don't see it have gone to great, great lengths to shield their fantasy world and aren't about to let this liberal media hoax bring down their world view.

Wash, rinse, repeat. There is no bottom for these assholes.

Trump Threatened To Withhold Friendship

This would imply that Trump was even capable of friendship to begin with.

Friendship is a two-way street.  All roads in Trump's world are one-way only, and point directly to himself.

There is no give with Trump, only take.

At that point...Trump gave Pence the precise incentive he needed to be rid of Trump forever.

Pence ain't the brightest bulb....but there is zero chance he signed onto that ticket without thinking Trump would probably get his ass impeached or thrown out so Mikey could take the helm.  But I don't think anyone in early Trump Land could see 1.) Trump going increasingly batshiat with each passing month, and 2.) that his supporters would turn into an actual cult.

Trump is an albatross...but Mikey still has hopes for some future in politics...and NOW he can, when the Trump tides turn...say 'Trump rejected me firstest!'  (And after Trump croaks...none of the crotchfruit can take the helm...so it's short lived after his stroke-summoning ass kicks it.

Doing one of the bullshiat ceremonial jobs of his vice-presidency turned out to be his get out of Trump Tower Free card.

We don't need a tell-all book to learn that. Trump said it publicly.

The Vice President has the power to reject fraudulently chosen electors

Said at a rally
"I hope Mike Pence comes through for us, I have to tell you," Mr. Trump said at a rally in Georgia on Monday night for two Republican incumbents who face runoff elections on Tuesday that will determine which party controls the Senate. "Of course, if he doesn't come through, I won't like him as much."

True. Trump and Pence are coward scumbags, they would never be able to run a dictatorship or do a coup by themselves. The dangerous ones are the ones around Trump. Scum like Miller, Barr, Banon, Flynn, Devos and her brother, Erik Prince.... the people he put at the Pentagon after the election when he tried to do his coup... like Michael Ellis, Christopher Miller, Kashyap Patel, Anthony J. Tata and Ezra Cohen-Watnick ...

Trump totally tried to do a coup when he fired a lot of people at the pentagon and replaced them with loyalists after losing the election.

Trump by himself aint dangerous because hes an idiot and a coward but the people around him are smarter and not all of em are cowards.

Exactly. Dictatorships aren't formed by one person. It takes a number of willing collaborators, and that's exactly what Trump was trying to implement. Just because it didn't work this time, doesn't mean it won't work the next time. With DeSantis, perhaps.

Yeah, except...

Although Pence ultimately did not move to stop the proceedings, "Peril" claims that he tried finding rationale for acquiescing to Trump's demands ― and found none.

I don't think it was a half-hearted attempt (he is, after all, a Republican, meaning he would do anything to keep his grip on power) so any escape from Trump Tower was purely accidental.

We knew this or already surmised that this all took place. I just want to remind you all, he is still out there and is a real threat. He has shown his cards over and over. If something isnt done to mitigate the threat, we will have ourselves to blame. The DOJ needs to act now. Yes, It will look like a partisan witch hunt and people will be enraged, anyway. Corn_Fed: I truly can't believe it was farking Dan Quayle who was the deciding voice of reason separating us from dictatorship. Dan Quayle?!?

This.  This here is what gobsmacked me.

From TFWP:

So intent was Pence on being Trump's loyal second-in-command - and potential successor - that he asked confidants if there were ways he could accede to Trump's demands and avoid certifying the results of the election on Jan. 6. In late December, the authors reveal, Pence called Dan Quayle, a former vice president and fellow Indiana Republican, for advice.

Quayle was adamant, according to the authors. "Mike, you have no flexibility on this. None. Zero. Forget it. Put it away," he said.

But Pence pressed him, the authors write, asking if there were any grounds to pause the certification because of ongoing legal challenges. Quayle was unmoved, and Pence ultimately agreed, according to the book.

My farking God.  Dan farking Quayle is the voice of sanity in the GOP.

You'd get thrown down the elevator shaft if you tried to pitch that in Hollywood.

The problem is that it doesn't take a lot of people to start the process and make it a huge problem that everyone else has to deal with.

Imagine if Pence had done what Trump asked (and remember he doesn't have to actually do anything, just say a few words), and someone like DeSantis announces that's fine with him and he's sending a new slate of electors. At this juncture every governor will be under enormous pressure to make their own declaration and nobody knows how it will turn out.

Also, "they can't because it's against the rules" isn't at all relevant, because this is the US federal government and there is no higher authority to make sure the rules are followed.
