The History Channel looks marginally better.

SansNeural: Zombie satellites!

That sounds like a cool, albeit expensive, hobby.  Someday people will be able to fly up there and grab the satellite, if they really want to.    If you find a zombie satellite, you should be able to repurpose it for your own ends.  The company that made it should be required to give you the operating codes, and you can use it for free long-distance sat phones...

I've switched to Smithsonian.  It doesn't have the science of Scrap Kings, though :)

Hahaha, definitely none of that.

They use green backgrounds, probably to make it look like night vision.

Helicopters take a lot of maintenance before they can fly.  It is probably good to do, so that they stay in the sky.

That is certainly an important factor to consider.

That is pretty cool.  Aggressive, confident, and dignified.  I bet they'll be changing back to Hoverfly and Butterfly soon though.,

FTA: If I left a mess like this on my desk at work they would probably send the people that clean the toilets and someone to escort me out.  I drove by a place that buys human Plasma for wino money, and thought it was quite incongruous, but in reality it could be a super high-tech Mars colonization research facility.

It seems like Buildings of Blood would attract the natural predators on Mars, and then the astronauts could shoot the giant worms or whatever arrives and use their blood instead, if the astronauts have enough strength to lift a blaster.

It just hit me. These SciChan shows (I know we're not watching that) are just YouTube vids strung together with a common theme.

Should I switch back?  I haven't seen a good YouTube in a while.

I just noticed that my hotel refunded my stay from the one day I stayed there last week.  I was supposed to stay there 6 days, but they stunk!  The room stunk, but got better with the A/C.  The pillows all stunk like dogshait, which I found out at 2 a.m., even the replaced pillows did.  The couch had bodily fluid stains on all the cushions, which I could tell since I carry a small UV flashlight when traveling, and the bath had stains all over the walls.  But the real kicker was that the bath mat had what looked like a shait stain on it, like a dog wiping its butt on it.  I have a picture but won't post it.  I blasted them on the 'how did we do' email, and they refunded my one night, thankfully.

This guy guy scared the bejesus out of me on my hike today. I walked past a branch about two feet from me and this giant owl suddenly launched into the air next to me and flew not far away and turned to inspect me.

That's a biggun.  Alkmost looks 3 feet tall, probably 7 foot wingspan.  I hop you had a stick or something, as he looks hungry, but otherwise well-fed.  Are there any mutilated cows around?

Here is the sound of the satellite.  It reminds me of the sound of Sputnik.  I wonder if all satellites whistle up there.  Maybe that is how they avoid each other, like spacebats.

Just got an email for OwlDrive.  It pretty much sounds like any other distortion pedal, but it has an owl on it.

BTW, the IK Multimedia sale is up to 14 free items for buying one.  I'm running out of things to get for free.  Will probably be some synth modules.

I am falling asleep.

I have tried to read that paper and did not get far; that's a whole area of scholarship with its own concepts and vocabulary and it would require some effort to get up to speed.

Are you watching Sci Chan or the Jet plane show?  That was a pretty good story with the pilot using the afterburner and sonic booms to scare away the attackers.

You have made more progress than I have.  I did print it and looked into some of the background topics, such as Lie Groups, but there is a big gulf of missing concepts in my brain.  The Lie groups appears to be sets of 'manifolds' that have similar extra properties, such as that their results all fall on a sphere, or maybe they all have certain proportions that will bake bread correctly when expressed in terms of flour, salt, yeast, sugar, and water.

Cool.

But the last, more interesting signal he tuned to was not Transit 5B-5.  Transit was the one in the middle of his SDR screen, the slightly wiggly signal that showed up kind of pinkish at 136.650 MHz.

Since 2018 its signal has drifted up to 136.659 MHz.  If there's any info encoded in that signal, it ain't much.
