Those energy stimulators
Just turn your eyeballs into craters
But an orgone accumulator
Is a superman creator
It's no social integrator
It's a one man isolator
It's a back brain stimulator
It's a cerebral vibrator
I've got an orgone accumulator
And it makes me feel greater

So basically, another grift.  Medicare pays for 4 years of a treatment that may be useless, but has been deemed breakthrough by the FDA.  Who controls the process by which things are named "Breakthrough"?  Trump's appointees.  The medical device industry would have profited billions from this while the rest of Medicare patients can't get basic care with peer-reviewed, tested, proven methods.

Jesus fark.  I think we're going to see many things like this come out over time.

There are many times I leave stuff for others to post, hoping someone does.
And sometimes they do.

I can think of several medical treatments that are not widely done that would actually provide measurable benefits. so what do you have to do to get them approved as medical treatments?

/maybe something to come back to in about 15 years when I retire and have time.

The people who pushed this "breakthrough" already did their pump & dump and are long gone, they could give two shiats about this decision

And they still don't cover hearing aids, even though about half the people over 65 could use them.  The FDA has been dragging their feet on approving personal sound amplification products, since 2009!  I suspect the hearing aid lobbies are concerned about losing their $5000 a pop business to $150 devices.

/I have two $150 PSAP and run them at the lowest boost.  100% of my hearing problem went away. I actually only use one, the other is a spare.

It said they passed the rule earlier in the year, which would have had to have been in the final days of the administration in January.  This was literally a monkey wrench he tossed into the medicaid machine as he left office, so that he could sabotage the Biden Administration.  Biden would either have to leave the rule in place, and bankrupt medicaid, or repeal it, and piss off millions of people who had hope in fake cures.

Okay, I guess. That's probably not where the problem ends, though.

Medicare durable equipment fraud has been a thing for decades - you know, stuff like those ads where Grammy is promised a sweet new back brace or whatever, with Medicare picking up the tab. The crook maybe delivers a box with ten bucks worth of shoddy Chinese knockoff equipment, and pockets the $900 from Medicare.

The smart crooks pack up and move on to a new Medicare scam or a new home base by the time investigators decide to close in. The guy who's running a scam in Brooklyn now might have been running the same scam in Florida six months ago.

The money? That's gone. DoJ can hold all the press conferences they want about "settlements" with the few they actually catch and prosecute, but actual collections are a fraction of a penny on the dollar.

I doubt private insurers are much better at stopping the fraud, in large part because they have to rely on the provider IDs used by Medicare, who may or may not bother verifying the provider applications.
