I mean...if you'd just spent two decades hiding from hellfire missiles...you too might be a little hesitant to advertise your whereabouts or host an evening show at 5pm every second Thursday

They're dead.  The people you need to take power are not the people you need to maintain power... and there's only so much money to go around.

Dumb, horny, young, illiterate men with AK47s are great for storming the capitol... not so great for running the bureaucratic monolith that is actually being a government.  That requires older, wiser, educated people with less violent tendencies.  In fact the best people for that job that will likely consist of the same people you just overthrew - let's hope you had the sense to keep them alive, eh?

This is why every new dictator (if they have any sense) will purge a big chunk of their "revolutionary brothers" and replace them with the same administrators left over from the previous regime.  Ahkmed the Ghost Sniper may have been the terror in the hearts of your enemies during the revolution but now he's just dead weight, and Abu the Devil's Accountant is far, far more useful to you... even if he did happen to work for the previous administration.

The people involved in the interim government realized they could easily keep their easy jobs if they just killed one man?

Et tu, Brute?

Human nature doesn't really change.

And now the United States can do it without much in the way of collateral damage:

This variant on the Hellfire has been dubbed, "The Flying Ginsu," because it uses no explosive, just blades.  It is capable of punching through a vehicle and killing the occupants.

So that silly graphic from a couple of decades ago of the rocket-propelled chainsaw?  They basically have something like that now.

The USA spent trillions of dollars, thousands of lives, and two entire decades in Afghanistan to replace the Taliban with... the Taliban.

You don't get to say fark the Taliban when they just dog walked you like that.

The real question is what killed them.  CIA, rival Taliban, Covid, a secret network of women who sneak into Taliban leader's homes, while wearing Burkhas, then murder the men, like Kurdish women used to do to ISIS leaders in Iraq/Syria.  It's anyone's guess.

I like that we are all so interested in the Taliban now.

Even like fantasy sex and murder fiction now.

They should monetize and do a tv show.

Pakistan cannot allow stable government in Kabul, Pashtus in Balochistan might be getting ideas, therefore ISI is always funding anyone opposing Kabul government.

15 side civil war between Haqqani network, Taliban and various tribal militias starting in 3...2...1...

Last I heard they were bombing hospitals in Afghanistan. Sure would have been useful there to reduce collateral damage.

Nobody since the Vandal Hordes have been interested in purging the bureaucracy.

Isn't it odd that we still talk about the Vandals, over 1,500 years later? Those mad bastards must really have known how to party.

They were known for dancing in the streets, if memory serves.
