Well, since the Cyber Ninjas are all finished in Arizona, they can start auditing the recall!

The California recall election rules is this: the governor being recalled needs to receive at least 50% "no on the recall" votes to remain in office.

Receiving 49.99% of "no" votes means the governor loses the recall election, and it doesn't matter if the winning replacement candidate won with only 20-25% of the vote.

I can't see how Elder can possibly lose since Trump overwhelmingly won California in 2020.

Yet another election to change that rule is probably forthcoming.

At 8p/11e p.m. when first results come in it's going to be mailed in ballots, and will likely be overwhelmingly for Gavin Newsom.

Whether that will be enough to declare Newsom the winner right at poll closing remains to to seen as recently mailed and election day ballots will be counted, which will kind of mostly favor the "yes on the recall."

Given the dynamics of the recall rules it may be difficult to make an election call right away, or for awhile.

Wait a minute.  Is the question being voted on in one phase or two?  i.e. is it:
1) "Should the governor be recalled?"
1a) (only if so) "who should be governor"

or is it just

2) "Who should be governor?"
and incumbent needs 50%, else highest non-incumbent wins.

There is. The instructions say that one may write in only a "qualified write-in" and I have no idea where to find the list of who those are.

I assume "Mickey Mouse" is one of them.

Per CBS:

While polls in the summer indicated a close race, a Berkeley IGS poll released Friday showed the "no" vote leading the "yes" vote 60.1%-38.5% among likely voters. Newsom's team is confident he'll prevail in the recall attempt, and privately, Republican campaigns in the state concede their internal polling indicates the recall will fail.

There aren't any. Any certified write in candidates would have been posted on the California Secretary of State webpage on Friday September 3.

I called the Ventura county election office on the Tuesday after Labor Day to confirm that. Also to double check the rumor that a non-certified write in would invalidate the entire ballot(IT DOES NOT) as I had turned my ballot on the 3rd with a "No" on question 1, and Lt. Gov. Kounlakis as a write in and didn't want my ballot thrown out.

Yes.

I wish I were joking.

2021-09-14 10:03:24 PM
If theres 10M votes and "yes" hits 5.5M but the top candidate gets LESS than the amount of "No" votes (no = vote for newsome) then newsome will sue as it appears unconstitutional.

This didn't happen to Davis because the "No" votes were LESS than the votes for Arnold.
