Thank you for posting that.

I'm choking up, but man....that's just perfect for right now.

vilesithknight: In Howard Sterns heyday, when he was still uber relevant and comedians and rock stars clammored to get on his show for exposure, not just nostalgia like now, Norm was the only comedian who had the balls to call Stern out. He blamed Stern and his staff for that one drunk whack packer who died, cause they egged on his drinking. As a huge fan of Stern, still to this day, that impressed me.

Hank the angry dwarf?

Moroning: So the funny quota in the world increased today. Dude made Seinfeld seem funny.

So when you make a joke about how unfunny something is and it sucks, what does that say about your sense of humor?

Damn. Way too young. Rest in peace, Mr. Ferguson.

/ fark cancer

That's a shame, he actively avoided Box Office Poison and I've been hearing in some circles that you can cure cancer with it. Maybe that was COVID. *shrug*

2021-09-14 4:36:34 PM
Utterly fearless. He'd say anything if it got a laugh, or if he felt like saying it even if it wouldn't get a laugh. My favorite comedian. Sic transit gloria mundi.

2021-09-14 4:37:09 PM
It's very likely I like him more as a writer than an actual comic delivering material.  But I do remember him having an epic twitter thread about Celebrity Jeopardy and writing and joke construction which seems it got deleted at some point.  He definitely understood comedy exceedingly well.

jclaggett: Wolf892: First Trever Moore and now Norm... Who's next, Pete Davidson?

Let's go for Jim Breuer.

He's an SNL alum. And now an asshat cancelling his shoes at any venue that requires vaccination proof or a negative test.

Yeah...I has to look the name up. He was Brian in Half Baked (the one that bought Jerry Garcia's ashes)

You have a problem with this?

2021-09-14 4:38:02 PM
His sketches on SNL were quoted by me and my college buddies and it reminds me of a time when I was a beginning writer posting my thoughts on this here website. Time does indeed go by too quickly.

Jim Bruer came to my college in like 2003 or 2004 for a free show.

I thought it would be pot jokes and goat boy, but it was a farking motivational speech. Very few jokes.  He is an unfunny turd.

Well shiat. You never called me, Norm.

2021-09-14 4:40:39 PM

Bannanaslug: Too bad, he was a funny guy. I remember the day I was watching SNL and Colin Quinn was in the Weekend Update chair instead. Had a whole bit like "you know how you sometimes go to your favorite bar and there's a new bartender all the sudden? Well that's me." The first break in "my" SNL cast as I had just become a fan.

And if anyone is a big fan of Norm and missed it, the sitcom he did (I think just called the Norm MacDonald show) is something you would probably enjoy. Was right after he left SNL.

Man that transition to Colin Quinn was *rough*

2021-09-14 4:41:12 PM
It is only Tuesday, and they might have even had a heads up, so, I'm expecting an all-star Norm episode of SNL this weekend (instead of whatever rerun was likely already in the slot), probably just float back and forth between Celeb Jeopardy's and Weekend Update segments... in anycase, should be good.

Also it is unfortunate that Conan doesn't have a show currently to remember his good friend on this week.

I really hope someone like maybe Conan can wrangle the necessary people into doing a special like this or something.

TheraTx: [YouTube video: norm saves the interview]

THE great example of never leaving a straight line lay. The premise just got set up with the concept of "Carrot Top Movie", and Norm was cosmically obligated to pick it up and run for the horizon with it.

You know what hurts the most is the... the lack of respect. You know? That's what hurts the most. Except for the... Except for the other thing. That hurts the most. But the lack of respect hurts the second most.

2021-09-14 4:49:52 PM
Aw man, lost a comic's comic.

His show where he had Letterman on was pretty telling; it was so clear just how much Norm chose to do things his own way away from the lights because Letterman was practically begging him to go back into the spotlight. Norm just wouldn't do it that way.

His return to Saturday Night Live was epic. "I didn't get any funnier... so now the show must BLOW."  I heard something where he said that after his monologue he almost went straight to the elevator to leave, though he was supposed to be in a bunch of skits.
