alaric3: fsbilly: And yet, Dennis Miller lives.

The true Dennis Miller died on Sept 11 2001. I'm fairly sure Rupert Murdoch replaced him with a brainwashed clone.

And Bill Maher is slowly dying of coronavirus. Not physically, of course, but man it's been weird watching him lose his mind in real time (so to speak).

Hey, at least it wasn't his heart that did him in!

RIP Funny man.

Science_Guy_3.14159: Oh man, I was wondering why he hadn't been in the movie business in a while. I know he was still good friends with the Adam Sandler gang.

He was a really funny guy, and if Adam Sandler considered him a friend I can guarantee he was a genuine good person.

RIP

Adam Sandler gets a lot of shiat he shouldn't.

I'm starting to think cancer is A REAL JERK.

I'm putting this one in the same file as Mitch Hedberg--I'm sad we won't get any new jokes, but grateful for the ones we have.

Rev.K: RTOGUY: Best comedian I've ever seen and I've seen a lot of comedians. Nobody could weave together a joke as long and meandering as Norm could and he always tied it together into a nice little package. The man was brilliant he might have been the smartest comedian to ever step on a stage but he always played it as if he was dumb until he dropped the punchline. It always bugged me that people just knew him from SNL as if that was his best work as far as comics go he was hands down one of the greats.

I watched that clip on YouTube by myself a few years ago and I was laughing so hard, I literally fell out of my chair.

That is no exaggeration, I flopped out of the chair to the floor.

"Cheese sandwich".

He was one of a kind.

I'm showing that clip to the people at work tomorrow who looked quizzically at me when I announced he died. Well, maybe just the director, she's the only one that knew of him. The damn kids don't know shiat. The fark are they teaching them in school?

Anybody have a link to his set where he tells jokes about pigs having sex to unappreciative Iowans?

Oh, fark you 2020 and 2021. Norm MacDonald was a beacon of light for old, sarcastic men. Who am I supposed to look up to now? Bill Maher?

Lewis Black is still around. I think...

I didn't even hear about this until my son got home from work and told me.

It gave me a sad.

RIP Norm.  Thank you for all of the off-beat humor.  Even the uncomfortable stuff.  I can't say anything that hasn't already been said in this thread.

Norm MacDonald, Dennis Miller, Kevin Nealon.

There is only one "Golden" era of SNL after The First Years... and those guys are why.

/Not to mention having Cheri Oteri, Ana Gasteyer and Molly Shannon. I had a teenage crush on each, but Cheri wins. Too damn funny for that show.

The Miller years were mostly good, but (some of) the years Nealon and Norm did Weekend Update SNL was so bad it almost got cancelled. Not because of Weekend Update, that was usually the highlight. But those years were baaaaad. If you have Peacock go and watch for yourself, all of those seasons are on there

Really the "golden years" of SNL for most people are whenever it was on when they were 13-18

Don't get me started on the 1st 5 years either

Also, it's sad Norm died too

I recommend looking up a reasonably recent SNL skit "Real Women of SNL"
Cheri is in fine form, as are many female SNL alumni.

For a lot of people the golden years were the first 5 years of SNL. It's when I was watching it live. Well, tape delayed, since I was on the west coast. Going back now and re-watching many of the shows, they did not age well. In fact, some were painfully bad. Luckily, even with questionable material, you could see the talent that was going to shine after many of the actors moved on after SNL.
The early years still have a lot of great memories for me, watching something totally new on late night television.

I saw a recent video of him, and he had the look.

I wrote it off at the time to Covid/being house-bound/etc, but today's news was the other piece.

Man, that sucks for him (and us, if I may wax selfishly for a moment).  He put out some great stuff after he had already been diagnosed.  That's tough to do.

One of the easiest things I've ever done was hire my bud #NormMacdonald to write the Roseanne show in 1992. Harder was letting him out of his contract in 1993 so he could take his dream job on SNL.Norm was fearless in comedy & life & his unique voice is missed by all of us today

Just gutted about Norm. When I was going through a tough time after I was publicly defined as a "racist p.o.s." Norm Macdonald was literally the FIRST person to reach out and  tell me that he knew that was ridiculous, that he knew I was a good person and that he had my back. RIP

No, but as we see every election cycle, they do tend to spawn oft parroted opinions from developmentally stunted manchildren.

And much of the overblown Adam Sandler hate came directly after that episode.

You can tell from his guest visits that Norm and Conan were close, much like Conan was with Shandling too.. obviously their families are top of the list, but, in some ways I think Conan has really went through a lot losing two comedic giants in his own personal life in a pretty short span.

lincoln65: His bit where he was hosting the first "YouTube webbies" awards with Jenny Slate and some other guy was absolutely hilarious.

They were all dressed up and treating it like a red carpet star studded event, and clearly wanted it to go well for the benefit of their careers.

I do wonder if there was some sort of falling out between Norm and Conan. He was never on Conan's podcast even though that seemed like a slam dunk, and he hadn't been on Conan's TV show since 2016. Frankly, Norm did go at least a little bit Dennis Miller in his final years, wonder if that had anything to do with it
