And he absolutely could have won re-election just by letting existing government agencies do their jobs.  Maybe made a little speech about wearing masks for America. Sold red MAGA masks to the faithful and toddled off to play some golf.

Policy of remain calm is a funny way of phrasing "we want them infected".

[Advisor and virologist Steven Hatfill] recommended "frank honesty" and "decisive direct actions." Neither would come.

That was February 2020.

That was an evolving strategy that the emails may come to illuminate.  Seriously, you used the word plan in your comment.  These guys had to figure out how to turn the lights on everyday.

Firing or muzzling anyone who told the truth didn't help.

Why do people repeat this shiat?

Seriously, just look around you! Look at all the non-vaxxers and covid-deniers RIGHT NOW!

Trump DROVE UP HIS VOTE COUNT by being an asshole about the vaccine. There was no way he was going to win as it was, and the pandemic gave him a BOOST!

Goddamn am I tired of this farking line of thought. It betrays a complete inability to recognize that Trumpers are NOT LIKE YOU.

Don't forget that it was accompanied with a strong media push on the garbage talking point of "could Biden really have done anything more or better than trump?"

Looks like even these losers realize the answer was yes.

But pandemic and competent governance be damned. Still gonna pull the lever for R, just in case this is the time someone actually does come door to door taking our guns.

This, he could sell water bottles on the Las Vegas strip and would find some way to fsck it up. He has literally not been successful in ANYthing he has ever tried.

You might think "but wait jst3p, he won the presidency!" but hear me out.

There is a very good case to be made that he didn't want to win. He knew it would be actual work. It is entirely possible that he wanted the publicity to help launch his "Trump TV" network, and getting "screwed" out of the presidency would have given him something to talk about for at least the first year. Why do I think this is the case? Look at his face the moment they announced he won:

His goal was to lose and leverage the public momentum to profit on his TV channel.

So even in his attempt to lose the election, he failed.

He is a complete failure, unless you want to give him credit for turning the large fortune he inherited into a small fortune.

Sheesh, just think about that. If he wasn't such a control freak he'd still be in control. All he had to do was follow the advice of his handlers and advisors, read a few speeches written for him, and he would have looked like a competent hero. Farking yikes.

Two things.

First, I'm surprised Trump doesn't love that picture because his hands don't look that tiny.

Second, the difference in color between his hand and his face is amazing.

DINESH D'SOUZA (CONSERVATIVE COMMENTATOR): And also remember that a few weeks ago, Jennifer Rubin, the Never Trumper, and others were all putting out the idea that there was so much misinformation being put out by the president, and by Fox News, that we would see spreads of the coronavirus in the red states - Republicans would die. But in fact, interestingly, these spreads are mainly in the blue states.
And what I find kind of interesting is you have these blue state governors and mayors, and they are trying - they're criticizing Trump, but they also have the outstretched hand. They want Trump to intervene. The same guy that they've been calling a racist and a fascist for four years, and now they want the racist and the fascist to step in and help them out. You'd think that if a racist and fascist was the guy they needed, they'd prefer to go it alone.

Of course.  But what's worse is that we KNOW that this happened.  And no one seems concerned about actually holding anyone accountable for it.

Or for any of it.

I don't mean to drift off into despair here...  But it is really incredible to me that gigantic pile of shiat we watched happen over the last 4 years, and nothing will ever be done to hold anyone accountable, or fix the problems that allowed that pile of shiat to add up.

The most recent COVID stats are near identical to the stats on Dec 3, and are still going up.

Washington State (75% vaccine rate ages 12+) hit a pandemic high for its 7 day average of new cases.

But, let's not lock down.

Yeah, that time has long past. Herd immunity (or at least as close as possible) is the way we're ending this now.

/hopefully with most doing so via vaccination, but no guarantees.

That right there is how you know he's a terrible businessman. The money potential would be SOOOOO easy. $30 a mask or 3 for $75. A red MAGA one, a blue one with the Presidential seal, and white one with his signature printed on it.

Give a generic speech about how you have the greatest minds working for you, the absolute best. And then stop caring. Pick a random scientist and make them an executive director of pandemic response, they'll report directly to Pence and you play golf. Hell, even picking fights on Twitter would be in his wheelhouse. "You don't support me and you don't support America. You're a loser who wants the pandemic to continue!" is a perfect response to the morons.

Ironically, it would have been the most successful business venture he's ever done.

I have a friend who works for the CDC.  Back in maybe Jan/Feb 2020, she said this whole thing was being so mismanaged by the Administration, people would write books about it.  Please don't blame the workers.  Blame the political appointees and the people they answer to.

2021-09-15 1:59:06 AM
The former admin's abject failure in dealing with nearly every aspect of the pandemic points out the inherent flaw in nearly every populist reactionary movement.  Our ignorance and prejudices are better than your academic studies and experience.  We'll easily deal with the issues  by simply using common sense.  Perception IS reality.

"He was just so worried about getting reelected and he didn't want to do anything that could jeopardize that, and I didn't want him to yell at me" says spineless lickspittle toady adviser.

2021-09-15 7:17:37 AM
Trump panicked because he knew his only political positive was the economy and shutting down major cities would be recessionary in the short term.

So he went all in on trying to keep his economic numbers up.

Which then led to his clash with public health advisers.

So he completely politicised the public health response.

And then it developed a life of its own, spiralling out into anti-lockdown, anti-mask, anti-vaccine, anti-anything that the egghead doctors said was a good idea during a medical emergency.

So this just made the economic damage caused by the pandemic worse and more prolonged as workers stopped going to work, as businesses shuttered because they couldn't protect their staff, etc.

So rather than owning the mantle of protecting the people from the virus, he decided he'd be the man who tried to let businesses keep going while their workers died.
