(CTV News)   Texas of the North's top Doc says she didn't see the havoc caused by the delta variant coming when she approved removing virtually all covid restrictions back in July. Pretty sure a bat with a severe eye infection could have seen delta coming   (calgary.ctvnews.ca) divider line

LiberalConservative: twocent: Um...bats see with their ears.

Nope. Subby is alluding to bats having relatively poor eyesight. Add an eye problem to make eyesight worse, and we have a bat that still would see a pandemic spreading. Bats do not see with ears. They have very good heating and use echos to hear what their surrounds are. They're not seeing, they're hearing their surrounds. Some blind people do something similar by 'clicking'.

Hearing not heating. Though that fur looks pretty warm.

Psychopusher: Gough: To put it in context, we drove here from Idaho, so it feels as if we've escaped a shiathole country. In Idaho, we have not only our fair share of plague rat morons, but several other state's shares as well.

Ouch!  My condolences.  Idaho's a fairly red state, and we know what that means when it comes to COVID.  But hey, you're welcome to refuge here as long as you want.  Just avoid Toronto's endless construction zones and you'll be fine.  :)

Thanks.  We'd like to stay a lot longer, but without central heat or running water (once the lake freezes) the living situation  becomes less pleasant.

I appreciate the tip about about GTA.  Even without the construction, I find it nerve-racking to drive through.

Bondith: My Edmonton cousin's kid got COVID after two days at school and brought it home.  fark this doc, fark Kenny and his merry band of incompetent assclowns, fark every mouth-breathing assbadger that voted for them, and fark every dickheaded anti-masker with and unlubricated rusty pitchfork.

I decided to cross the US border to visit my family in Edmonton. To be clear, we did a PCR test ahead of time, uploaded our CDC cards, printed state vaccination records, drove in to eliminate public transit, checked in daily on the ArriveCan app, masked up everywhere and socially distanced everywhere.

We knew as far back as July what was about to go down and it was now-or-never. It was obvious it would get ugly. The message the government was sending was clearly self destructive, both in feeding the virus as well as cementing a toxic behaviour that will forever prevent the public to do what's right.

But when we got there, it was clear it would be much worse than we imagined. Whyte Ave was packed with massive lineups into the clubs. Every tourist place was shoulder to shoulder. I asked my brother if he was worried about sending his kids in-person (one of which is too young to vaccinate) and replies "nope". Can't imagine what the mall was like, will never know.

Now granted, Alberta is bad and yet is way better than virtually every US state. However this was completely avoidable. All I can theorize is that it's bad to have politicians who appear to be kindred spirits with anti-vax trolls.

Can't argue with that.  I'm not sure what Idaho winters are like, but ours are pretty unpleasant.  But then I hate winter in general, so maybe I'm biased.  :)

It used to be a lot better 20-odd years ago.  But ever since they started building an endless forest of condos without expanding the infrastructure they inhabit, the city has just become a total nightmare, especially if you want to avoid the usurious rates of Green P parking lots. I used to love going downtown.  Now you can't pay me enough to go there.

I am sick of these horrible stereotypes! Bats are not blind, some don't even echo locate, but all of them* have decent eye sight too.

/*species wise, I'm sure individually done have eye troubles.

swaniefrmreddeer: She has lost all credibility, Hinshaw needs to resign.

Fired and face charges preferably. That evil woman knew she was going to get people killed and has the entire pandemic, she continued toeing the government line anyway. Kenny can join her, and everyone involved in cutting healthcare during a pandemic and all the farkers who were pushing to reopen everything.

her getting fired might happen, but I'd be mighty surprised if she faced charges since all the decision making was in shandro and kenny's hands. At worst I expect they'll make her jump on the political grenade, and then drive the bus over her a few times for good measure.
