Hmm, if only we had negotiated some kind of deal to get them to get rid of their nuclear program...

It's just crazy how this works and I bet it's more like two weeks.  Thanks Obama!

If we can trust North Korea and Pakistan with them, who cares.

Let's put them in NATO instead of Turkey.

Fark off, Israel.

Okay.

Someday you're going to be able to build one with a high school education and crap you found in your basement. Andorra will have one. It's 75 year old technology. How long will we be able to keep it from them?

I'd love to see the list of countries that have nukes and the ability to keep their mouths shut about it right now.

I'm willing to bet more than you think.

The problem is the materials. There aren't very many places you're going to find viable Uranium.

Cutting their funding by say.... half, could pay for a lot of what American public education needs funding wise. Some of that Afghanistan coin could do the rest and end American poverty, and still have some left over. All of these things would keep Republicans from being in power again ever. Will the Dems do it? lulz

Yes. Having enough enriched uranium pure enough to produce the desired fission reaction and detonation is still really farking hard. It's not like it's at the 7/11.

They will not develop a nuke if only because we'd let Israel nuke them preemptively

Somewhere, some-when, somebody said that Iran should attack Israel, and in that blood-feud paranoid corner of the world, that is all anyone has been able to think about for 40 years. If the rhetoric ever settles down, some settlement or a few bulldozers or a rocket or two later, and it all starts up again. The whole region is a sad, sorry bunch who, of course, emigrate to better places every chance they get.

The one commodity they can trade gets sanctions, and a path forward to progress by nuclearization is shut down. So... yay? Impoverishing and destabilizing countries is going to make things better? Israel is safer when the entire region is in disarray?

When you play zero sum games over and over, you get players who get so used to playing those games that they lose sight of better outcomes. It is a trap. You might have a chance to get out of that trap through compromise, but those who profit from zero-sum play have a huge incentive to tip things back into the trap.

The treaty was a way out. But then Trump and Bibi threw everyone back into the same old stupid game. All it takes is a little bit of fear, or a little bit of change. Then let the media do the rest.

They (evangelicals) hate the Jews. The only reason they are pro-Israel is the rapture has to start there.

If they really had the capability to make a nuke, they would have done it during Trumpolini's presidency, in self defense.

I still find it amazing that we managed to hammer out a deal to ensure that they would never be able to produce a nuclear weapon, and TFG tore it up as soon as he had the chance.  Which of course meant that they immediately went to work trying to build a weapon.

Yet, this is somehow the fault of the Democrats.

We are so anxious to be attacking people.

Who is going to be the first object of our misplaced aggression? Iran or Saudi Arabia? Or do you think it will be something unusual like North Korea?

Farkers think Israel is faultless and will remain faultless and not that Israel is accomplishing anything but encouraging Iran to actually want a nuclear weapon.

In my case its that the lies about Iran's nuclear ambitions, which are themselves being spread by an actual rogue nuclear state, are old enough to have grandchildren and thus I have no interest in treating those who spread those lies seriously.

Let's say that Iran does get a nuke.  What changes?

Will they use it on Iraq?  Traditionally they've been enemies, but over they last few decades have started bonding over their mutual hatred of the USA (we're good at that).

Will they use it on Israel?  Despite their rhetoric, the leaders of Iran have too much sense of self-preservation for anything that suicidal.

Will they use it on the USA?  Range and suicide, above.

So what is even the point of them wanting one? Simple: The USA has never invaded a nuclear power and it never will.

That's what they gain - Immunity from an American invasion. That's it.  That's what all the fuss is over.

And if there is one thing the USA cannot tolerate it is the idea of an oil rich country that we can't just invade on a moment's notice if they decide to start farking with our gas prices.

See also "Space Program" which invariably begins right after nuclear capability.  It has nothing to do with science - it has to do with being able to retaliate against an American nuclear attack.

It's worth noting that the United States assassinated one of Iran's top military leaders in what was supposed to be a neutrally hosted safe meeting place (Iraq). So now it's unlikely that Iran will ever deal with us in good faith again, since that act was basically like if China assassinated one of our Joint Chiefs.
