No, Subby, Nintendo doesn't care if you mod old hardware. The modding community for GBA and GBA SP has been thriving for years. I built an SP from various parts and modded with a new backlit screen, and it's fantastic. You can improve the speakers, change the charging hardware, tweak the controls, and so on. It's all dead hardware that Nintendo doesn't sell, repair, or give a shiat about anymore.

My GBA SP has a motherboard from the last model of the SP (with the better screen, so it can drive the screen I installed), a casing from a third party Chinese company that makes reproduction GBA shells, buttons from an original SP, D-Pad from a mod supplier, and a speaker from a mod supplier (not much better than original, but more reliable than old hardware, anyway). Oh, and a charge cable from a third party because originals are hard to come by.

However, that being said, the Thicc Boi is a dumb mod unless you really care about being able to charge with a USB cable or add more battery to it (the GBA SP had pretty decent battery life in the first place, and you can always swap out a newer battery that adds quite a bit of life without makin the thing stupid-thick).

This is a mod for people who just want to play around with the console a bit. The problem is that whenever people put out mod kits like this and publicize them as they're doing with this one, the used GBA SP market goes bananas and prices skyrocket. And that sucks.

I had all that for mine once. Nothing says "portable fun!" like kitting your handheld out in full battle armor and cheat device.

Oh the amount of AA batteries that thing would feast on.
