Well, isn't that the point? Nuggets and wings are a crispy conveyance for sauce. It's got to be a well made and seasoned nugget to be worth eating alone. I love nuggets and the only two brands I actually like plain are Wendy's spicy (for the heat) and Chik-fil-a (for the crunchy bits, and they're juicy).

I wonder if they are comparing them against the cheap "pink slime" formed ones or those that are battered pieces of cut up chicken.

That's really the crux of the issue isn't it? Mcdonald's chicken nuggets might involve chicken as an original ingredient but by the time it reaches the customer it's mostly just fried protein mash. I could easily see a plant based alternative arising and being popular.

However, I just don't see plants becoming a chicken sandwich anytime soon. Lab grown meat is a much more likely alternative IMO. Dunno what the carbon impact would be.

On one hand I welcome the lower environmental impact, less animal cruelty, and modest health benefits. On the other hand I just re-read Fred Pohl's The Space Merchants, and it's making me feel itchy. Everything is branded. Nothing is what it seems to be. It's not enough to make a choice. It has to have a cutesy deceptive name like No Evil Clucks or Reel Meet.

If it's the ground up, spongy chicken paste, it would be harder to tell the difference. If it's cut up chicken and you can't tell the difference, you're the wrong person to review things.

I think the real issue here is the 2-3x price increase.

Fake meat is always going to be more palatable in little breaded chunks or patties... it's going to be a long time before we have fake steaks.

Reminds me of a restaurant appetizer, essentially wok'd diced firm tofu with a little bit of soy sauce and served with some diced green onions. The right amount of salty/savory, and the outside had a crisp skin. Delicious!

These aren't bad for a more substantial fake chicken patty. They at least fill up a whole bun, which is more than you can say for some brands of veggie burgers or some other veggie chicken patties. I haven't tried the Impossible chicken that's getting rolled out (not available in my market yet).

For comparison, the base version of the Gardein chicken patties, which are still being sold. The Ultimate ones are expensive, but the pictures should be enough to convey why.

I'll have to keep a lookout for the Ultimate ones, otherwise yeah every other damn brand has been useless. except Quorn, those farkers seriously know what they're doing. still waiting for KFC to expand their test market to Philadelphia.

meanwhile, I finally picked up some "brats" at the supermarche so we'll see how those work out. we shall see.

Um, if he'd just work that hard at a job he'd be able to buy as many nuggets as he wanted, 5 hours even at minimum wage would buy you 22 4 pieces, but the better deal would be 7 20 pieces at McDonald's for the same money.
