Embalming is horrible.  If a funeral home spilled 5 gallons of embalming fluid, they'd need to call the EPA. if they fill a body up with 5 gallons of embalming fluid and bury it -- that's just an ordinary day.

It makes no sense

Ah, another consequence of the Civil War.

Many soldiers were embalmed so they could be sent back home for burial, rather than being buried near where they died.

Lincoln was preserved and taken on tour through the country after his assassination, which let more people know that it was possible, and it became the norm in the country.

I liked that idea of putting you in a tube with some leaves and rotating you a couple of times until you're mulch.  Something like 30 days from the dead to the daisies.

America needs tube turners or maybe robots will do it.  That would be a job robots like.  "One more dead meatbag coming through."  Just put him in tube 75.  That one's done.

Soylent Green is still my preferred way out.

(It later clarified and said that "wastewater treatment plants can process and treat funeral home medical waste to high standards as outlined by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.)

High standards? In Texas?

This.
I want to have a funeral pyre like in the movies. Total cost: a few bucks for gas in the chainsaw and a few hours labor.

Dead for Tax Reasons: Texas funeral homes are dumping bodily fluids down the drain

""Austin Water Special Services has not received a permit application from any funeral homes," Austin Water told the paper in a statement. "This ordinance is in place to protect against pollutants that could damage or obstruct the wastewater collection system or interfere with the wastewater treatment process."

(It later clarified and said that "wastewater treatment plants can process and treat funeral home medical waste to high standards as outlined by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.)

Industry representatives defended the practice, noting that the embalming process already highly dilutes any blood coming out of the body, and that wastewater plants deal with far dirtier materials coming down people's drains from sinks and toilets."

So it seems like it's not as big a issue as Yahoo wants it to be. I'd assume that stuff like Drano would be far worse for water treatment plants.

Are they aware that we have bats? Bats + blood in the water = you guessed it, Taylor Swift impersonators.

I don't think you are supposed to put meat in compost.  It might be better if they just drop your carcass in a field and let the carrion eaters/scavangers have at you.

With a bunch of corpses though, the area will start to smell bad and may become an incubator for diseases like Cholera.  We should designate a place, move everybody out, and air drop/catapult our dead into it.

I nominate Texas.

I have the same problem with gasoline.  If I drink 5 gallons of it, I have to go to the hospital.  If I put in my car, it's no big deal.  The world's gone crazy.

Austin Water, the city's water regulator, said it wasn't aware this was common practice,

Austin Water, the city's water regulator, said it wasn't aware this was common practice, and that it would need these businesses to submit a permit to allow this kind of dumping, in order to safeguard the waste water treatment system.

Nonsense. If you didn't know it was happening before and the post-treatment water passes all QC tests, it's not any issue at all.

If you've been in a small boat on Town Lake or Lake Austin (names for stretches of  the urban part of the Colorado River between dams) in Austin, you may remember the well fed water moccasins and other creatures swimming up to your boat.

I wonder what would be left after dropping 1300 feet onto hard pack or old blacktop.  Could paint targets and take wagers.
