The name sounds like a c-grade theme park.

There's a reason the place isn't called "Greatlahoma," or even "Goodlahoma."

Any other commercial airports named after aircraft crash victims?

Yes, yes, I realize calling Will Rogers a crash victim is not nearly giving the man his due.

It was actually a very nice airport even before this.  Flew in and out of there a dozen times or so.  Nice artwork on the walls, satellite parking and rental car lots are well laid-out and convenient.

The airport in Utqiagvik (f.k.a. Barrow), Alaska is named after Will Rogers, and his co-pilot Wiley Post.

OKC also has a municipal airport named after Wiley Post

So... added a Starbucks, souvenir shop, and made it take 10 extra minutes to walk from the curb to the gate?

Roland Garros had an airport (Saint-Denis, Réunion, France) and a tennis tournament (French Open) named after him, and all he had to do was get shot down over the Ardennes.

I must have hit every airport in the country back in '94-'95.  Only thing I remember about OKC/Will Rodger's Airport is "the slowest grill in the West".  Ordered lunch, and it took *forever* to get done.  And this was a counter/take out type place, not a sit down and get waited on place.  I mentioned the grill as I ran to the gate and the stewardesses (still had them back then) knew exactly what I was talking about.

Wiley Post Airport on OKC is named after the pilot of the crash that killed Will Rogers.

So they could take all that building material, and build housing; and prairie fire resistant infrastructure to replace what's been lost. Instead, they are farkups who can't figure out how to literally live when their state is literally on fire? That's sad and pathetic. Equal parts sorrowful and schadenfreude.

My question is, does any of that new shiat stay open late? Because the last time I was at Will Rogers (for a delayed flight) everything shut down at, like, 9 pm.

I drive through Oklahoma on my way to visit my mom in Austin.

It is three states of suck, I will grant you, but it's kind of mind boggling how Oklahoma is easily the worst part of the trip.

You need a lot of traffic to justify keeping everything open overnight. And with more room, they can handle more during the day so I don't see the incentive.

Why, yes; Wiley Post Airport in northwest Oklahoma City is named for his pilot.

Their marketing needs work:

Exhibit 1: This "World Airport" lacks a single non-US direct connection.

Exhibit 2: "Being America's 22nd largest city is a reflection that people want to live here, people want to visit here," Mayor David Holt said.

HUH??

To me, the saddest part of that statement is that there are 50 states.  That means that there are at least 28 states without a city as large as Oklahoma city, and therefore shouldn't even be considered states.

I had to look that up - it actually sounds like it was true (depends where you get your numbers and for what year, my quick google result said they're 24th in population in the US at 669k as of 2021, just ahead of Las Vegas and a bit behind Nashville).

They're actually 4th largest in terms of land area at 606 sq. mi., which helps bump the population numbers up (for comparison, NYC is about 300 sq. mi.).

Most interesting/perplexing thing to me: OKC's population has gone up by nearly 15% since the 2010 census. People are moving to Oklahoma City?

I don't disagree with the first part of your statement, but driving through Kansas is like bleeding out from a pin hole in your jugular. It's like a bottomless bowl of suck pasta. It's a never-ending drive despite the fact that you can see your destination from 300 miles out. Kansas couldn't even the get the nice side of Kansas City. But Kansas did elect a Democrat governor so 50 points to Gryffindor for that.

I was in Tulsa earlier this year for my brother's wedding. Well, outside Tulsa. Weird but nice town. It was all weed shops and churches, even right next to each other.
