I chose the hero tag because all badgers are heros.

Vicious little bastard heros.

I think a couple of towels or blankets tossed in would have allowed his egress without involving the authorities.

Sorry, sir, that makes too much sense. We're going to have to ask you to leave the internet if you continue to use such clear-headed thinking.

Same thing happened to me this weekend only it was a mouse in a live trap that I put in a bucket that got loose. I let him go in the wood.

Badgers can be wickedly aggressive if they feel threatened- or if they're having a bad day. You know, like being embarrassed because they got trapped in a hole. National Geographic refers to badgers as the meanest animals in the world.

Possums are kinda like that. In the US they look very rough.  When I saw one in Australia it looked cuddly.

Just lean a board in the well and let him walk out.

/Badgers?  We don't need no stinkin' badgers!

Badger don't care. He will just wait for a snake to fall in the widow well and eat it cause he don't care. Or he will wait for a game warden to reach in, and eat his arm. And he won't care about his arm cause badger don't care.

Ok, what is the purpose of a window well other than trapping badgers? I've never knew this was a thing.

That well wasn't that deep, barley 2ft by the look of it.  If left alone he could have easily climbed back out.

Also badgers dens can easily be up to 9ft below grade, he could have easily dug himself out of there as well

It's a means of escaping a fire in a basement apartment. I don't know if there are other reasons to have one.

I've never seen one big enough that an adult could fit. Always thought it was just to get some light in below grade.

All the home owner had to do was sliea a branch or 2x4 down into the well at an angle back away fairly quickly and the critter would have gotten itself out.

People die so often in Australia that multiple Australian shows I've watched over the years have bodies dropping damn near every episode and zero police investigations or oversight.

Somebody, "oh, I haven't heard from Jim in longer than usual and can't contact him"

American, "you should call the police for a wellness check or go figure out what's going on. He might be in trouble"

Aussie, "just another guy who fell to the blitherdybloggidoo, mate, happens all the time"

I'd imagine letting the badger dig itself out isn't an ideal outcome.

So, I guess the badger only got to this particular part of the song:

"Get drunk with owls,
drop acid with cows...
I wanna make friends
with the badger!"

...and then it had no idea how it wound up in the window-well.

Yeah, but he was a millennial, and he already had the phone in his hand.
then he recorded somebody else doing the dirty work of taking care of his house, and put it on youtube for lots of upvotes.
This is the modern version of "taking care of your stuff."
