Less funny/patriotic than a book of Ben Garrison cartoons

A lot of these are terrible.

This one hurts though.

At the end of the day the terrorists won. Even when the allied forces pulled out of Afghanistan this was still a reason to disunify America. Thanks Trump you terrorist loving arsewipe.

Would be interesting to go back and see how long after 9/11 it was before the first unarmed black man was killed by police in America. I'll put the over/under at 3 days.

Didn't Australia commit a bunch of war crimes in Afghanistan? You may need to get off your high horse and get down into the shiat with the rest of us.

2800 dead; 20 years of war!
650,000 dead: I won't wear a mask, it's not as bad as the flu.

The American response to 9/11 was childish and, in retrospect -- really, also at the time -- reprehensible. So much of what's gone haywire in the last twenty years has its birth in the catastrophically inept and delusional psychosis too much of this country underwent, as many of these cartoons show.

I dunno.  It's a mixed bag, and I didn't read them all, but the ones I did read represented the moment pretty well.  Garrison's work is just unhinged.

We valued the symbol of the twin towers more than the lives in them.

Yeah. The time right after 9/11 was... an interesting one. I vividly recall a whole host of various Flash games that popped op on Newgrounds that were basically just juvenile torture simulators or crudely done shooters featuring vaguely middle eastern looking people wearing head wraps.

The majority of those political cartoons have the style of WW2 propaganda posters. Distinctly racist and cringe-worthy with the benefit of hindsight.

when i went to https://www.aljazeera.com after 9/11

The Iraq war death toll. Katrina. The Afghanistan war death toll. Preventable deaths from lack of medical care. Concentration camps for refugees. Covid. Political violence against masks and vaccines. More covid.

I just get more angry at the self-righteousness with every anniversary.

This is going to keep going all the way through the worst of climate change, isn't it?

Given the circumstances it was understandable.

Of course it wasn't. But what it did was help Bush and Cheney drive us straight toward Iraq, the reason they stood aside for an attack to happen in the first place.

Scorpitron is reduced to a thin red paste: The American response to 9/11 was childish and, in retrospect -- really, also at the time -- reprehensible. So much of what's gone haywire in the last twenty years has its birth in the catastrophically inept and delusional psychosis too much of this country underwent, as many of these cartoons show.

I remember when we were coming up on the ten year anniversary.  I was a resident and I mentioned I was sick of the 9/11 stuff, that we seemed to cherish playing the victim to drum up...something.  Nationalism, whatever.  It's like getting punched by somebody in a fight and instead of playing it off like it didn't hurt, we went down like a soccer player inside the penalty box.  I just wanted to make an argument for some farking stoicism.  Maybe let's not go for the jingoistic victim complex so much.

The farking surgeon gets irate, says "so you're saying we shouldn't care about it?  Hey everybody, rga184 doesn't care about 9/11 and doesn't think you should either!".

The thing is, 9/11 was a farking masterstroke for Bin Laden.  He not only killed a bunch of us.  He got us to betray our values.  He got us playing victim.  He goaded us into shiatty conflicts.  He positioned us to become the bad guys on the world stage.  Not that he wasn't a bad guy, but we became like the other side of a bad guy coin to a good part of the world after all this.

And every year that they replayed the videos and ran the victim complex tearjerker images, it was a reminder of how much we got our asses kicked that day, and continued to get our assess kicked without us realizing it.  fark.  If Americans traveled abroad more, we would realize just how little credibility we have in the rest of the world now, and our response to 9/11 was a massive part of it.

At my last job, one of my co-workers always wore a beanie like this, and his profile picture had him out in a park, and there happened to be a plane in the background, so I told him he reminded me of this picture...

My boss pulled my post, the guy got all freaked out, and my boss got pissy for a day or two also. I never asked what it was all about, but I think these dipshiats not only thought it was a real picture, but they thought that dude was one of the hijackers.

Even though they aren't as old as me, I can guarantee you that they were at least 4 or 5 on 9/11, meaning that they grew up with the internet early in the age of viral urban legends and would have cut their teeth on shiat like this, but they paid no attention.

2021-09-11 12:19:02 AM
The most painful one was the idea of Republicans and Democrats planting a flag together, kicked in the head somewhat by the GOP ramming through the crappiest bills through and, if anyone objected, just said, "Well, I guess you've already forgotten about 9/11." Naturally, while refusing to even vote on bills that would provide health care to First Responders.

They used 9/11 to ban online poker because Sheldon Adelson was a huge donor and wanted it done, so they crammed it into the SAFE Ports Act.

Anybody who acts like both sides are equal can go F themselves.
