On the poor. Remember that. He won't lose any seats because he's raising taxes on the poor. He'd be dragged out of Number 10 if he dared raise taxes on the rich.

If I thought stupidity was funny, I couldn't HA HA fast enough, but I don't.

They deserve all the bad shiat and them getting it is a good thing, not a tragedy.

England has had to import food to feed it's population for hundreds of years. It's a small island.

Do you know when the last time England was economically isolated?  The pre-Roman period.  Nations, like people, do not live in isolated bubbles of perfect He-Man Libertarianism.  The UK was as integrated with the EU to the same extent Rhode Island is with the US.  There was no amount of Big Dick Flexing that was going to create a wholly atomized English economy in four years - or four decades.  It is entirely appropriate to point and laugh at the morons who wanted this, but "Just buy more money" is a stupid hot-take.

Last time that happened, it required the Luftwaffe flattening the entire country.  Since the Tories are so fond of the good old days, maybe they can bring back post-war rationing as well.

Nothing is permanent. Economics tell us that supply and demand will even out to a natural level.

Basically, enough people will starve to death such that demand goes down to meet supply. Easy!

Mr Wright emphasised "these shortages don't mean you're going to run out of food".

Of course not. You may however have to eat a protein rich gruel for dinner 2-3 nights a week, but given the state of British cuisine, it's not a big loss.

I hear they have a lot of money in their socialized health program.  Maybe use that to build more McDonalds.  But not too many.   Can't joke about the fat Mericans if you're trying to stuff yourself in to a Morris Mini.

Autarky is a poor strategy, particularly for small island nations that have been reliant in worldwide imports for hundreds of years.

Russia, outside of the defense and nuclear power sectors, basically has the economic makeup of a developing nation, reliant on exports of resources and raw materials. Import substitution is basically forced on them due to others not being willing to trade in certain arenas.

China is still hugely reliant on imports for enormous sectors of its economy.

Well. There it is then.

It is time to emigrate to New Zealand, Australia, Canada or the US, where there are foods and cooks aplenty.

Let those left behind deal with the shortages of food, power, cheap labor, and European alliances. Let them become gentlemen farmers like their great grandfathers. Chin up and brass it out!

In Soviet Russia (and other Communist-bloc nations), people would often carry a small nylon string bag with them as they went about their day.  This type of bag was called an avoska, or "perhaps-bag," because perhaps you will stop by the market on your way home from work and perhaps today there will be meat/butter/fruit/coffee/toilet paper/whatever and perhaps it won't be restricted and you'll be allowed to buy some, and you didn't want to miss out because you didn't have anything to carry it home in.

Not sure why I thought of that.  Purely coincidental, I'm sure.
