Meh, as a meat lover (mmeeeaaattt) myself, I can intellectually recognize that the less of it we consume, the better off we will be.  The planet will be healthier, WE will be healthier, and life will generally be better.

Lawd I wish it didn't taste so GOOOD though...

Burger King used to have a dang good veggie burger...a morning star farm product.

Then the hard core vegans farked that up insisting they had to use a separate grill and only use utensils that didn't touch meat, which wasn't feasible so BK just microwaves them now and they suck.
Sure you can request it to be grilled....but try communicating that special order to a 17 yo on a crappy speaker mike.

Give one of these a try. Carnism is an easy addiction to break thanks to all of the reasonable substitutes out there. It's far easier to quit meat than cigarettes.

I don't think the PLT has reached Canadian shores yet, but I kinda want to try it.  I have nothing against McDonalds' meat burgers, and will still eat them, but I'd like to try the plant-based alternative to see if it stacks up should I decide I want to cut down on my carnivorous desires.  I've tried Beyond Meat sausage patties in a breakfast sandwich, and they were actually pretty damn good.  (I like sausage, but A) I hate the fat nodules in meat sausage, and B) some places use lower grade meat that just has a nasty aftertaste.  The Beyond version solved both of those problems for me.)

Because in America we can watch a G rated movie showing people killing each other with guns, but a nipple flashed at a football half time show means that your career is over. Can we stop thinking about the kids yet?

I've quit cigarettes (almost seven years, now)....And I'll disagree with you on that one.  I think they're equally difficult.  The cravings for cigarettes go away after a while...meat, not so much.

But yes, I like the beyond meat and other substitutes.  They're quite tasty.  Now if they could just make a "Beyond Brisket"  Or "Beyond Tenderloin"

That's the thing though; with 'meat cravings' you can go have an alternative and feel sated. There's very few "nicotine free" cigarettes out there, and they come with almost all of the drawbacks of the real deal (smelling like shiat, tar content, cancer risk, etc.)

I think Burger King does an Impossible Whopper in the USA. Not sure on McDonald's; I don't really eat there because even their french fries are cooked in the melted fat of slaughtered cows, so there's not much to choose from for the ethical eater.

That's not a thing.  Not even the original case of so-called popcorn lung (bronchiolitis obliterans) in an actual popcorn factory was proven to be caused by diacetyl or any of its relatives (acetyl propionyl, acetoin); the report made assumptions not backed by any study, and no follow-up was ever done.  And in any event the vape industry hasn't used anything containing diacetyl in years just to specifically assuage the fears of those who believe the popcorn lung thing -- and before that, when it did, the concentrations were orders of magnitude lower than anything found in a popcorn factory and incapable of causing harm even if popcorn lung was a thing.  Which it isn't.  QED.

And just to drive the point home, tobacco cigarettes already have 10x the concentration of diacetyl than any vape liquid ever did, so if it was a thing, every long-term smoker would have had it.

/Quit 22 year habit with vaping.  Still vape.  Lungs still clear as a non-smoker.

I became an accidental vegetarian after giving up meat as an experiment. I expected to get the same withdrawal I got from giving up cigarettes, but .... nothing. I'd encourage my body to object so I could give in, but, nope it was quite happy to continue the experiment. After about a year I started to eat some fish, but that was for another reason ... wanting to remain married. We are both now happy pescatarians, although I can still get near that divorce court by suggesting we are aquavores.

When BK first came out with the veggie burger. It was one my 'go to' burgers when I was doing 'on the road' visits for work.
Yup. They used to throw them in the big flame grill thingy. But then people complained about 'touching meat' and they changed to microwaveing them...and it sucked, still does...but no meat touching...but sucking.

I do love the videos for food prep for these type of things.

The VA hospital near by where I worked had the BEST burgers in town.

Being government they had to have strict regulations about quality. More so than even Mc D's etc.

Anyways. They had a system of cooking hamburgers that involved partialy cooked burgers that where kinda steam into pale crappy looking thing.

But then on your order, 3 mins...they'd that anemic looking burger and throw it through the meat flame griller which would char grill it to perfection.
they'd also have the bun roller coaster thingy that would toast the buns TO PERFECTION.

Well, it was wonderful.

Also, being VA they had LOW LOW PRICES and no tax. They also had a "Canteen" store that sold clothing, some food stuffs, and electronics like a PS2 we got with no tax.

Anyways if you have a VA store/Canteen near you check it out.

I thought I could never be a vegetarian because I like meat but I always thought it was sort of a good idea because of the impacts of the meat industry.  I finally stopped eating meat last year because of the cost and quality after COVID hit the packing plants.  I still miss meat, but now that I haven't eaten it in so long, I don't really even get tempted by it, even though I thought I wouldn't be able to give it up in the first place.  Although my mum is visiting in a couple weeks for the first time in 2 years and we are going for sushi.

It didn't look like a nipple to me. Cyst and tumor would be going even further in the wrong direction in my opinion.

I think it was a bit of fat that just happened to bulge and pop in a weird way that looks like something it isn't to our pattern-forming eyes-and-brains.

THAT said - McDonalds bacon is garbo tier. I don't even bother with bacon at most of these joints. It's extra cost and does not satisfy.

It's been many years since I've eaten anything with bacon at a fast food place or restaurant, because somewhere along the line everyone forgot how to cook them evenly and instead there's big un(der)cooked chunks that gross me out and probably aren't safe to eat. Bleeggghhhhh!

Congrats on quiting smoking! CSB: Years ago I considered opening a vape shop and as part of my research I hung out in Vape shop owner forums. Interesting, just as we can get 16 million colors from 3 color ink cartridges, they can get untold numbers of flavors from 15/16 different chemicals. Done properly, you could probably invent a smellivision. Anyway, there was pretty much agreement that one flavoring component in particular was pretty bad for the lungs. Anything from creme brulee to strawberry cheesecake, or banana cream pie; if it tastes rich and creamy it isn't so good for you, otherwise, meh.

Mr. Leopold Bloom ate with relish the inner organs of beasts and fowls. He liked thick giblet soup, nutty gizzards, a stuffed roast heart, liverslices fried with crustcrumbs, fried hencods' roes. But most of all, he liked grilled mutton kidneys which gave to his palate a fine tang of faintly scented urine.

Thanks. :)  Did it 11 years and 2 weeks ago now.  The "anything rich and creamy" is an overstatement.  The ingredient specifically was diacetyl, which imparted a buttery flavour.  Later, when the scare was going on, we substituted acetyl propionyl (2,3-pentanedione) which was similar, but weaker (it's a sub-component of diacetyl), but the problem with that was that if it was heated too much a small portion of it could convert to the reaction product acetoin, which is carcinogenic.  To be clear the doses we're talking about here were minuscule, and virtually incapable of causing real harm even over long-term, but at the time, any perception of harm, however minute, was to be avoided at all costs, so we all just agreed to stop using diacetyl and acetyl propionyl altogether.  Again: There's nothing actually harmful about diacetyl, but a lot of people think there is because of the popcorn lung case, so it's avoided.  If you ever wanted to use it in a mix yourself, go nuts.  It's fine.

It's true though that a lot of flavours come from a relatively small number of base chemicals, but we're still talking a few hundred if we're talking about the wide world of flavourings.  FEMA (not that FEMA, the other FEMA) has a link to the flavour library maintained by the FDA, and you can see there are quite a lot of base chemicals that make up all flavourings (not just those used in the vape industry), but these are absolute base flavours -- the raw individual flavour profiles that you usually need to use 4 or 5 of just to make, say, a grape flavouring.
