You don't count, Harry.

Neither do the 48 current Dem Senators.

I would say getting rid of the filibuster would not be a good thing.
What they need to do is abolish all the rules that make the process easy, and go back to the standing filibuster.
Make them work for it.

Without filibuster reform, or just junking it completely, the democrats full agenda will not pass.  It will not happen. I don't believe for a minute that Manchin and Sinema are dumb enough not to understand that.  And neither are the others who hide behind those two vastly overrated individuals.

There is no good reason for democrats to cede everything to a bunch of obstructionist assholes who represent, on every issue, the minority view in this country.  Counter majoritarian safeguards are fine but  the system was never meant to grind to a halt this way.  We all know this.

At a bare minimum, reform is needed.  Biden suggested a return to the talking filibuster.  Maybe that's enough for now.  It's either that or explain to voters last year how the minority party ran roughshod over democrats yet again.

Oh fark.

If Harry Reid is for it, that means the centrist Democrats are planning to ram through some corporate bullshiat once the filibuster is gone.

Because it will keep authoritarian dickbags from running rough shod when, not if, when, they take back congress and try to pass unAmerican legislation that further splinters the country.

But keep telling yourself that the agenda today is more important than the agenda tomorrow.

Trying to present your country as the world's greatest democracy, then having the filibuster, never made much sense to me. Then again, neither does the electoral college. But I don't know anything, I just post dank memes.

What makes you think the GOP won't drop the filibuster when they get the chance?

And, as I said, a return to the old rules that Biden and a number of other democrats find useful might well be sufficient.  Anyone who wants to delay the work of the Senate needs to hold the floor and keep talking.  It's either that or dump it, pass as much legislation as you can and take those wins to the voters next year.

It's also not a foregone conclusion that republicans will take Congress next year.  They may well have really screwed themselves with the Texas abortion law.  That's going to piss women off all over the country.

If your stance is that the Democratic platform, if enacted, results in Republican future victory - it means that you don't really believe in the platform.

Even with the filibuster gone, you'll still struggle to pass anything good because of Manchin, Sinema, and the other 7 Senatorial Democratic goons who voted against the minimum wage hike.

What you'll end up with is a whole bunch of corporate bills and things like the voting rights bill, minimum wage hike, and abortion rights still left on the tables.

I have no faith that you'll get all 9 of those BlueMAGA conservative Democrats to vote in lockstep with an agenda that's actually good for the American people. Of course, they could prove me wrong.

It's not like repealing the 17th Amendment would result in less federal spending.

I'm not seeing anyone on that list who doesn't fall into one of those two categories.

The filibuster is the tool of minority rule. If you support it you're explicitly supporting the fascist takeover of the government. Or you're too stupid to realize that's what's happening.

You actually think Sherrod Brown and Tammy Duckworth are either stupid or fascist?  I realize this stuff is frustrating but come on.

Brown has recently called for the elimination of the filibuster if needed.  So was he just dumb and or fascist in 2017 or would you say he's still one or both of those things?

Well, let's see. They're taking actions that directly support and gives power to fascists. The fascists are using that power to erode democracy as we speak.

So yeah, I think they're one, the other, or both.

Okay, let's try this again.  I pointed out the list the other person posted was from 2017.  Then I said Brown is a yes on filibuster reform.  It's easy to look it up.  Circumstances have changed and he is dealing with that reality.

And you're still sticking with your position that Brown has the same position on this that he did four years ago.  Even though he doesn't.

And beyond that, you think liberal democrats are fascists.  Please read more.  Words have meanings.  You sound like the trumpers I've met who call everything marxist.

Night Train to Wakanda: Great! Let's take advice from the guy directly responsible for Amy Coney-Barret and Brett Kavanaugh.

Yeah, remember why he did that. It was Mitch's long game. Mitch had filibustered Obama nominees, including not just for courts but for the CFPB (Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, created and passed by Congress specifically to prevent another 2008-style meltdown), more times in just his first term than the filibuster had ever been used against all previous Presidents combined.

It's one thing to filibuster a nominee because the Senators feel that there are real problems with that nominee (such as when Bork was voted down, or the even more times that Trump's nominations were filibustered), but Mitch did it because of the nominator Obama, because as he himself said it was his and the GOP's top priority to make Obama a one-term President (see later when he wouldn't even give Garland a hearing). Also, they didn't want anyone heading the CFPB because it got in the way of the already ludicrously wealthy from siphoning even moar wealth from the middle class.

Reid did what he had to do in the face of unprecedented obstructionism, and in so doing, yes, he gave Mitch the "moral justification" to nuke it for Supreme Court justice nominees as well (as Mitch planned). Reid's crime was falling into Mitch's trap,.but without the superpowers of Ace Reporter Jack Brolin, how could he have avoided it, given what was going on and how very important it was that those positions be filled?

Just remember: When Democrats elected a progressive to chair the Nevada Democratic Party, Harry Reid's conservative acolytes raided the state coffers, and took all the money to a city Party and ran an anti-progressive Democratic Party campaign with that money.

Harry Reid didn't say shiat against that.

fark him.
