I've got a 1st gen iPad Air. Still works just fine.

What can the newest one do that my current one cannot?

My first gen Air is also still in use, but I have started to find it slow and the battery life is now crap.

I don't need a new iPad because I barely use my old one, and I barely use my iPad because it is frustratingly old

I had the battery replaced a yearish ago. I have not noticed any slowness, then again I use it to watch shows only, so there is that.

I should look into that. My iPad used to be very heavily used, back when I commuted to work on the train. Now that I'm working from home, I'm just not reaching for it much. Of course, the battery and speed are major factors there

The biggest difference is support for the Apple Pencil. That may not be your thing, but there's a pretty good ecosystem of apps for digital illustration and note taking.

Bragging rights for the shiniest, newest iThingy.

I use some Apple stuff. It has its place.
Can not stand fanboys, and hate all the YouTube videos speculating what is going to be updated at the Apple altar event this month.

Let me guess...

- The processor will have 200 more mhz
- The device will be .001mm less thick, buttt...
- The battery will have 12 minutes less life
- The whole thing is 4 grams lighter!

I've never seen anybody brag about their new iDevice, but there seem to be a lot of iHaters obsessed with such a thing happening. Solution is for you to get a life.

They don't on Fark, or they would get torched.
Just spend a little time on YouTube shortly after a new iProduct gets released.

Excellent Lidar 3D scanning and real time face tracking to control my live Metahumans in Unreal Engine...but I do high end Virtual Production.  You can't play actual 3D games on your first generation iPad.

I'm sure your iPad is fine for text editing, etc., so you are good forever probably for what you do with it.

Come to my office. I'll introduce you to our resident iDork. The one who makes a big production of using leave to take off and pick up his new shiny toys on release day. The one who watches announcement day at his desk and then spends all day asking if the rest of us watched.

/It's exhausting.
//Yes, we're all in the office despite the virus shenanigans.
