Even without refining it, saying you're going to get rapists off the street requires that they already have committed at least one rape.

And getting them off the street is going to mean saying only stranger rape qualifies, which is, you know, 19% or so of reported instances.  So great, gonna tackle a fifth of the problem....

When MIT developed Kerberos, design statement #1 was "assume every client is completely compromised."

Add to the pile: senior administration that things they should have root access to everything, and that they should be able to use their Facebook password for it.

There's a push at my work to use everything Microsoft for infrastructure, not the previous mix of Unix, Windows, and third party software. A monolithic backend may be much cheaper upfront, but if someone compromises part of it, they'll have an easier time taking everything else down as well.
