I think that an ugly black market would pop up selling god-knows-what juice into illicit vapes.

Vapes are never going away at this point. Stupid to think they can ban them.

Five or so years vape shops popped up everywhere around here. If there was a strip mall, it had a vape shop in it. There were probably 10 of them within a mile of my house. They moved into the empty shops after the "We buy gold!" craze died out. They're all closed now but one.

There's still one left down the street from me was a liqueur store and the owner converted it into a vape shop. I never see anyone in there. I don't know how they stay in business.

I think they all converted to CBD shops.

Are you implying that there is much daylight between the pro-vape crowd and the anti-mask/vaxx one?

Some of the smokers that I know that moved to vaping are more hopelessly addicted than ever because they can deliver a steady dose of nicotine to their brain any time they like. There's no more smoking break, it's just whenever you can sneak a drag.

No more tar in their lungs so that's nice, but they are tweakier than ever.

That more or less act like head shops at this point.

At least that is my experience here in NoVa.

They also seem sketchy AF.

As designed. And they're more expensive than regular cigarettes too.

Tobacco has been the one issue conservatives have by-and-large lost in the last 40 years, and I wish we could bottle whatever it is that's made it that way and spread it out a bit

Could be. There's another place called "John's Ribs" in this shiatty little strip mall down the street from me. It's been there since I moved into this house in 2006. I got food there exactly one time. It wasn't that good so I never went back.

Obviously I'm not watching the place 24/7 but I frequent a couple other places in that strip mall and I literally never see anyone in there. Maybe they have a rush time where they do a lot of takeout or do catering or something but I've always wondered how they stay in business.

Yeah, I don't smoke or vape.  So, I feel I don't really have a horse in this race.  But, I also would prefer the FDA not create a dangerous black market for these products now that they have allowed the demand for them to reach critical mass.

In my area someone opened a bagel shop in a new strip mall that is right next to a strip mall that has a well established and good bagel shop. I went into the new place once a couple months after they opened and got the "deer in the headlights" look from the staff as I placed my order. The bagel I got was nothing special and yet they're still there 5 or so years later.

I used to smoke clove cigarettes, now I vape. Flavors were necessary for me. I'm still vaping 0 nic. This is the real problem and no one wants to come out and say it. Ban high nic vapes. Ban nic salts. Only sell flavors in 0 nic. This isn't hard, people. Regulate NICOTINE!

Would love to see some definite numbers comparing the risks of vaping to those of traditional tobacco use.

This, sort of. Nicotine isn't even the most dangerous thing in cigarettes.

Still have a pack and a half of Djarum Supers hanging around that I give a go every once in a while.

I make my own liquid for the vape, so I can control the strength. It's down to 4.5 now from my starting point of 18. Eventually I'll get down to 0 and maybe quit.

I quit regular cigarettes the day I got my first e-cig. Never had the desire to go back except for the occasional clove.

It is dumb as fark but I got a pot one and they are quite addictive. You have your little fix right there, ready to stick it in your mouth anytime you want.

I wonder how these places stay in business, but then I remind myself that the one I go to is at the ass end of a strip mall in between 2 other closed businesses and right across from a vacant larger store (a K-Mart, I think, but it's been closed so long I can't remember what it was).

The 20-something guy who always works there could very well be the owner and maybe even lives there. He sits around watching TV all day waiting for customers like me to come in to get their fix.  Before the pandemic, there would usually be 2-3 of his friends hanging out, but now it's just him.

I don't think anybody's getting rich there, but he's getting by.

As a non-smoker, I'd much rather smell vapes than normal cigarettes.

/Smokers can't smell how nasty they smell.
//Really, what's the difference between a vape and a fog machine?

Depending on their stock selection and ability to keep a decent inventory, they could killing it with online sales and you'd never know...

Good, last sing I want to see is more people blowing a bunch of oily smoke all over the place sticking to everything in a trekking dust to all my electronics.

I don't care what it does to their lungs, if they're dumb enough to breathe it in they can reap the rewards.

I like the concentrate (wax) vapes. No cartridges to break.

Best thing for concerts since seats.

Most of the serious problems with vapes have ben caused by dodgy street THC e-liquids. If they want to ban vapes, they should be forced to ban cigarettes as well. They're far more harmful than vapes.

Yes, the temptation to just keep pulling away on a nic salt mix can be an issue for the weak-minded, but that is just going to lead to a headache and wooziness. They might learn to self-regulate, but probably not. What are you going to do?

/Not a vaper, nor a smoker
