Should be blown into smithereens today....but knowing the speed government works it will finally come down 2 years from now. If the Republican wins as Governor it will stay put. Vote.

FTFA: "values change and public policy changes too"

Tell that to the self-deluded conservatives who think things should ALWAYS stay the same and anyone but a well-to-do, Christian, white, male landowner should live as a second class citizen.

Nazis marched in Charlottesville to protest the possibility of their favorite participation trophies being removed. Hopefully their bullshiat is not suffered this time around.

The Silent Sam stuff that happened in North Carolina had the same "in perpetuity" claims of being legally binding. "The president of the school said it was to be displayed here forever, and since he paid for part of it himself then that means he owns it and that was a condition of the gift, and his wife was a member of the Daughters of the Confederacy so we have to assume they are really the valid owners of the statue, so we're going to use the NC school systems' money pay off a bunch of Pro-Confederacy people to display the statue off-campus because students keep ripping it down."

Should really just give everyone a symbolic button, and mortar to the damn thing after taking steps to make things as safe as they can be when a mortar's involved.

People with two brain cells rubbing together can enjoy seeing a monument to hate and oppression blown the fark up, and even the redneck assholes get to feel like they blew shiat up because they got a button that probably didn't do anything.

Just to troll, we should put up a statue of the Patriots tipping over King George's statue, to replace the Gen Lee statue.

No. Put them in a museum or some other appropriate place. These symbols are important parts of US history. Not just the symbols themselves, but why they were put up and why they were removed.

We don't need to keep them all. It's not like we preserved every swastika-laden item from the Third Reich. It's OK to destroy some trappings of evil.

Except when Repuglicans return to power thru fraudulent elections (but upheld by the corrupt Supreme 6), all of them will merely be moved back.

My whole damn point.

The appropriate place is a scrap yard.  No one reads volumes of analysis austistically for a statue.  A statue celebrates its subject matter, and that is understood by people.  They will see a statue in a museum and make the entirely appropriate assumption that thee museum supports the subject matter.  None of this "They can read 700 pages of small text to fully contextualize the socio-politico-cultural-economic intricacies of this statue of something we all should hate".  AS a specific example, we do not have at least a dozen statues of King George III and Benedict Arnold* set up at every battlefield an museum to the American Revolution with two miles of concrete etched in .03278-point font discussing the issues as to why the giant-ass commemorative bronzes are there.  Nor is there a huge statue of Tojo straddling the USS Arizona monument, pissing on it.  Or OBL squatting to drop a deuce in the middle of the World Trade Center complex.

So, please kindly explain what exactly is there about this particular set of foreign murderers of American soldiers that makes you want to go to such great lengths to keep their participation trophies front and center in American life?

* One monument of Arnold, and it very specifically never mentions even his name

It's been preserved in 3D model form complete with details of everything painted on it. History has been served. Now we can melt the physical object.
