Sie werden sich hinsetzen! Sie werden ruhig sein! Sie werden nicht beleidigen Deutschland!

And now who can even remember what all the fuss was about?

It was really just a big misunderstanding so let's not talk about that.

As a child I wondered why Hitler was allowed to gain so much unchecked power, then saw Trump do the same

Which trapped my Mom in Switzerland.

Her name was very obviously Jewish, and she had just travelled from the Atlantic coast, across France, with a Nazi traveling companion who was returning to Germany.  I have her journal of her trip.  The whole thing was quite bizarre.

One odd part is where she has a bad cold and cannot find anyone selling cough drops that do not contain cocaine.

It was Putsch Punch.  Tastes great with just a hint of sugar and over 75% more anti-semitism.

One of Trumps ex wives said he kept a copy of mein kampf in his bedroom nightstand.

When a reporter asked Trump about it his response was " who told you that?"

I'm surprised Trump himself didn't write the forward on the new copies still being produced (sadly)

Poland did alright until Russia got involved, then it became untenable. The West always downplayed German losses to make their own pathetic performance against the Blitz look better in comparison.

And thus began a proud tradition of everyone punching Nazis. Sadly some in Eastern Europe, Russia, and the US have forgotten it - or not been taught why the people who supported them were wrong.

The Nazis were all hopped up on goofballs.  Even the civilians were eating them like Tic-Tacs, perfectly legal and OTC.

Well it's a good thing we never let fascism rise again.

Thankfully it trapped her in Switzerland. I hope she was one of the lucky few that got to stay in the "little life boat"

For awhile, though she eventually crossed France back in the other direction and got back to the US.  That was sort of like "Casablanca" because the cities were blacked-out and train schedules were a mess.  I have a telegram she received from Cordell Hull's Office.  There was a massive effort to evacuate American Citizens from Europe.  (Deja Vu?)  It was in this mess that she met my Dad, who was in the crew of the ship that brought her back.  (There are a couple stories involving submarines and torpedoes there.)  The ship was converted to a troop ship when the US joined the war.  My Dad was blind in one eye so not draftable, so he spent the war making aerial bombs for the Air Force.

I should put my Mom's journal online, though that would mean retyping the whole thing.  I've scanned it, but it's faded and didn't scan well.

Not to mention the Germans downplaying their own losses.  Interestingly, the invasion of Poland is one of the reasons why the Germans did so well in the Battle of France.  It allowed them to test their forces under real world conditions and see what needed improvement.  The Germans were actually quite critical of themselves in their evaluation of the Polish campaign and instituted a number of changes and training programs before the end of 1939.

As much as we make fun of the Germans for hiding their history, they actually do a much better job of teaching it than we do, if the many Confederate flags displayed outside the South are any indication.
