No kidding. I have to get my news on AM Radio after dark from "Carl Buchanan's White Night Conservative Crusader Hour" in Dothan, Alabama. He's the only one telling the truth and his goat de-lousing spray keeps covid and libs away. Gives you the roaring shiats and your ears ring, but that's when you know it's working.

OAN, Newsmax, and Fox News could go for becoming craters.

People that are not trustworthy also do not trust other people.  News at 11.

2021-08-31 1:15:09 PM
'Liberal' media in the US is actually mostly corporate media that hasn't gone completely batshiat insane chasing Q-bucks.  It's worthy of some trust, but it's hardly a bastion of integrity and truth... they absolutely will jump at the shock stories to get those clicks, and that's part of the problem too.

2021-08-31 1:15:32 PM
OAN, Fox News, and NewsMax are media. Their schtick comes down to "everybody else is as deranged and partisan as we are."

2021-08-31 1:16:37 PM
Sadly this is probably because a lot of the people who trusted it have died.

Also, on a positive note, a lot of the people who trusted it have died from following its advice, so the survivors are gonna hopefully grow up

Hitler in a bad wig and chitty spray tan was on the radio show circuit saying this exact same thing - only saying the MSM ratings have cratered, and that nobody should believe in the fake news, and that they are the enemy of the people ...and that the only source you can trust for the truth is him.

So none of this chit is true.

My hot take is that the cable news - all of it - sucks. That cable television providers charge way too much for pure garbage, and that many "smarter" people are cutting the cable entirely.

Both parties have little trust in social media platforms, but about half as many Republicans say they trust the information they get from social media compared to Democrats.

Apparently democrats have their problems as well.

Use a few drones to deal with their studios?

That's something I could get behind.

Unsung_Hero: they absolutely will jump at the shock stories to get those clicks, and that's part of the problem too.

CNN's Afghanistan withdrawal coverage has been particularly bad.  They dug up every warhawk neo-con they could find and gave them a platform, because endless wars are cash cows to corporate media.

It's been a shiatty reminder of how people rich enough to own media outlets will use them to advance their own personal interests.

2021-08-31 1:19:21 PM
Yes, the people on TV secretly hate you and want to ruin your country, family and way of life. This is how sane, NON-brainwashed people think!

2021-08-31 1:19:46 PM
"The trust conservatives have in media has cratered thanks to far right lunatic outlets like OAN, Newsmax and Fox News"

And Conservative loonies are dying in droves from horse dewormer overdoses and a virus they don't believe exists.

So you take the good with the bad...

2021-08-31 1:19:48 PM
So they don't trust national news, local news, or apparently even social media (thank goodness). Unfortunately what's left is for them to formulate their own wild theories or listen to their idiot friends and family's ignorant musings.

2021-08-31 1:21:16 PM
A bunch of incredibly stupid people don't trust the "media"? Shocking.

Conservatives and other anti-American interests have been slow-rolling a new Business Plot for nearly  50 years and with trump they've finally found someone sufficiently dishonorable, venal, and as actively anti-American they are to go all-in on.

They should pay for their attack on our country with their lives and fortunes.

2021-08-31 1:23:08 PM
Because they are, by and large, horribad beast people.

2021-08-31 1:25:29 PM
Well ok and their providing a feedback loop for anti-science morons will shrink their demographic considerably.  Win-win!

Balance will be restored.  It's just a matter of how long it takes, how bad things get first, and whether there is a revolution involved.  I guarantee you the people who are most responsible for the damage will not stop until they're made to stop, because they believe their wealth insulates them from all consequences the same way you and I believe the sun will rise in the morning.  And they're right the vast majority of the time.

Why it matters:The party's trust in media starting dropping when President Trump took office, but has plummeted much more dramatically in the Biden era.

/Seems like a reliable site

Narcissists and entitled asswipes don't like it when someone points out they did something wrong and stupid.  On occasion, some media outlets do that.  So, they blame the *oooooohh ahhhhhh* LIBS, who only exist in their moronic fantasies.

2021-08-31 1:30:28 PM
Those are media companies.

It's not that they distrust "media", they just don't like being challenged on their preconceived notions.

beezeltown: Dothan, Alabama

I'm actually in Dothan and this isn't that far from the truth. I saw a guy at Rural King a couple of weeks ago loading up with what looked like IverCare into his buggy. He checked out and waddled over to his pickup with DV tags, because you can't throw a tractor around here without hitting a disabled veteran. I wonder if he's done shiatting his brains out.

Pernicious Q. Varmint: OAN, Fox News, and NewsMax are media. Their schtick comes down to "everybody else is as deranged and partisan as we are."

This. The issue isn't that they don't trust the media. The issue is their mindless devotion to the most obvious liars in the media.

2021-08-31 1:33:14 PM
Republicans want bias affirmation.

Fox, OAN and Newsmax give it to them because they know it's a money maker.

The rubes eat it up because it makes them feel better about themselves because they aren't a "Lib".

Conservatives are living proof of the adage that it's easier to fool people than convince them they've been fooled. They have given up truth for an alternate "reality" in which they are always right, champions of freedom and liberty and have God on their side.

Trump and even the establishment Republicans know their voters are idiots, but they play to them none the less for their own benefit. It's ruining the country in the process, unfortunately.

They feel better right up until the doctor shoves a breathing tube in them, after they so enjoyed having their biased idiocy about covid confirmed by their favorite news shows.

'da gubmint!'
'da media!'

Here's a question:  If you don't trust 'da media', why are you constantly parroting 'da right wing media'?

Ooooh!  So it's selective...got it.

"...the major shift in Republicans' attitudes in the past five years points to increasing levels of partisanship and division in society. solely, and squarely at Trump feet due to his aggressive attacking of media who reported facts about him."

It's not a coincidence that this radical shift in opinions coincides almost exactly with when Trump started his bulls***.

20 years of Fox prepped and fluffed Republicans, but Trump is the one who flicked the switch with "Fake News"

yes hello glad you're awake

They have been saying since before Reagan that the government they want to be in charge of never does anything good.

Facebook is a HUUUUUUUGE part of the farking problem.

They got an algorithm that can nerf the shiat out of your content if it has even a nanosecond of a copyrighted song, but they just turn a blind eye to this BS because the people peddling it make them money.

2021-08-31 1:51:02 PM
Watching right-wing media is like a spiraling addiction. You start off with some FOXycontin. It makes you feel the way you want to feel -- and besides, some respectable people are using it, so how bad can it be? But eventually it doesn't satisfy you as much as it used to. You've become numb to it. So to get that edge back, you try just a little herOANN. Ooh, that's the stuff. Now you never want to watch anything else. You just need your daily fix. You fall so far down the hole that your dealer throws in a little bit of fenRTanyl, and you barely notice the difference... by now it's far too late.

2021-08-31 1:54:56 PM
Don't forget CNN, they're equally as responsibly for bringing us Trump and the flood of white supremacists as Fox or OANN.

I prefer Adam Carola. I find Joe Rogan too elitist.

Given television is gone insane for peddling woo-woo crap like Oprah's self-help cadre of charlatans like Dr. Phil/Dr. Oz, and naturopathetic useless products like Gwenyth Paltrow's Goop, it's no wonder people have zero trust in what the idiot box has become. Conservatives are just on the bleeding edge of the idiot trendline.

If I watched conservative news networks I wouldn't trust the media either.

"I don't watch FOX News," is a common refrain from ultra conservative people in my town who listen to nothing but one of the six stations in my county (four AM, two FM) that broadcast rebroadcasts of Rush Limbaugh all goddamn day long and then listen to FOX, OANN, and Newsmax the moment they get home.

Then they say, "My wife had it on."

Gutsy.

You should have used Opp or Elba.  But if you really new the area, you would have used New Brocton

The trust that conservatives have for media outlets has cratered thanks to those outlets telling conservatives all the crazy shot they want to hear.

Ya -- MSNBC and CNN are the ones being sued for spreading lies about the election -- not Fox.

That was  a pathetic gaslight, kid

People telling you stuff that kills you can be disconcerting -- especially when it also kills the talking heads that are telling you that stuff.

Only 35% of Republicans today say that they trust national news organizations, compared to 70% in 2016.

How the hell was it 70% in 2016? I could have sworn most of them were biatching about the "mainstream liberal media" long before then.
