I mean that is generally how markets react to shortages. Also creates more space for new competitors to find a niche.

We really are getting to the point where we can't afford anything. Inflation is really out of control.

Well, they have to fund that new self-destruct system, buying and installing enough explosives to mimic a B-52 strike isn't cheap.

According to Fark it doesn't really count as a price increase if it's related to supply constraints.

This guy gets it.  I always do the opposite of whatever Fark says.  It's made me a fortune.  I just took out a huge loan and plowed it all into gold.  Those stupid banksters gave it to me at 2% when Real inflation is running at 10%.  I'm going to be even richer.  They're so stupid.

How much of the cost of a PC is the CPU?

Well, it's an older crate, so to get a new CPU i'd need a new motherboard to fit in the right socket, and then i'd need new DDR4 ram since this board only
has DDR3 slots. Add this to the fact that loose PC equipment like this can get expensive here due to import difficulties, duties and taxes... well, lets just say it's a real headache./plus getting an SSD at some point would be great, but those are still about as rare as an honest politician around here

As much as you're willing to spend on it...

Fark user imageView Full Size

Then you've also got the GPU which if you're talking about a gaming rig is more powerful than the CPU in most systems... then there's everything else in a PC that has a chip(s) in it... which is basically everything.

I did a full rebuild of my PC in 2019 and I could probably part it out for more than I paid for all the components in 2019... I would be sure I could, but the one component I didn't upgrade was my video card... because they were "stupid" expensive at the time and not that much better than the ones from a few years prior.

I felt the chip shortage this month.

Got a new to me truck back early Aug. 2004 model, so it desperately needed a tech update for car stereo. Everyone sold out of everything that isn't Boss or Dual. Yes, even Crutchfield's cupboards were bare.

Got lucky early last week. Found a nice Sony in CF's S&D inventory.

I've bought S&D from them before and been pleased. So I snagged it. Only "issues" were printed copy of the manual instead of the fancy version. And the mic clip that sticks to the dash wasn't there. But my install plans didn't require that, so I was all ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Got it installed and it's working great. The included mic clip worked perfectly.

Unless you're really looking for it, it blends in nicely with the dash.

And this "cigarette lighter replacement" USB socket looks damned near original equipment.

It's amazing how a few sticks of RAM and a SSD can make a old PC feel new again.

I built my rig in 2011 and simply upgraded components over the years. I just use it for photo editing and the odd FL studio session and it does what it needs to do. If I get back into making videos then that will justify a new build.

The biggest change for me speedwise was moving to Linux and going from a spin hd to an ssd.

Ram upgrade didnt do much.  Graphics stayed same.

Linux doesnt use much ram on its own and has never slowed down over time like windows did.

Thanks. Amazon is chock full of those round USB outlets. It's just an extension cable that plugs into the HU.

It makes for a clean look.

Run linux lite here on an old $300 micro system from 5? years ago. Maybe a little older. Still runs like a beast.

Only graphics cards are stupid expensive. I have been highly considering buying a chip with usable integrated graphics and making due until things arent priced 200 percent above retail.
