All thanks, once again -- like every farking time -- to Ford re-opening too damn early.  He does this every time.  "Hey, it looks like numbers are well on the decline, let's start opening things up!  What's the worst that could happen?"  Three to four weeks later the numbers have doubled again and he's all "Well, this was an unexpected turn of events, I guess we'll have to shut down again."

Except this time I doubt he'll shut down until the numbers are spiking so hard the 7-day graph will look like a SpaceX launch -- if he shuts down at all.  Because we were close to complete and total re-opening, and I doubt we'll hit that stage -- Ford's not quite as stupid as Jason Kenney -- but we might have to roll back to stage 2, or even 1, if not complete lockdown, because a majority of the the as-yet unvaccinated are farking morons who only mask because they have to by law (and even then we get the militantly anti-mask on occasion) and don't want the vaccine.  But nobody will push a vaccine mandate,.

The other non covid problem is that the nurses have not had a contract in years are woefully underpaid and the damn Ford government refuses to give them a raise of more then 1%

Over in BC, they're finally (yesterday) admitting that the next phase of the "re-opening plan" probably isn't going to happen on schedule. After a solid month of increasing case counts and hospitalizations.

The non-vaccinated are a large majority of those cases but it's not exclusively their problem. With Delta in play, vaccine efficacy isn't good enough on its own. It has to be one layer of protection on top of the other stuff like wearing masks and avoiding risky environments.

The thing we're really missing is access to testing. You can get a PCR if you have symptoms but we don't have easy access to rapid antigen screening tests.

The problem is there's one and only one solution: vaccine mandates. But there's not enough political will to do so. So this will continue over and over until an overwhelming majority of people are fed up enough to get the mandates established.

I'm not sure where we're at with rapid testing; I know you can get PCR pretty easily.  Our cases -- over 700 a day at this point -- stand at about 22% breakthroughs, with the rest among the unvaccinated.  The breakthroughs -- hell, most of the infections at this point -- are almost certainly all Delta, and vaccinations have been steadily declining for more than a month now.  But people are getting too comfortable with the idea that, hey, everything's reopening, I guess we don't have to worry about masks as much except where we're required to.  So people are having gatherings, parties, you name it, and the numbers are shooting up again. Big surprise.

That's the nice way to refer to Ford.

Exactly.  I've been saying for months we need a vaccine mandate in addition to the measures already in place, because otherwise this shiat is going to keep coming in waves and we're never going to get back to normal.  And that's exactly how this is playing out.  We could be done with this whole nasty business if we'd mandate vaccination, spend a month in lockdown or stage 1 at the most, and get a real damn handle on this thing.  But nobody will push for the mandate because they're all listening to the whiny "BUT MUH FREEDUMBS" minority.

Fark your freedom.  Your freedom is why we're in this farking mess.  Stop acting like farking children, mask up, get the damn shots, and when we've dealt with it, you'll have all the damn freedumb you want!

The carrot got us to 70%, which is a lot farther than most places got.  Time for the stick.

No argument there.  We've done pretty good with voluntary vaccinations, particularly in Ontario.  But we're slowing down significantly, and it's getting close to about time to stop farking around and let the antivaxxers and procrastinators find out.

Grow some spines and send unvaccinated covid patients home. Review people's social media accounts and refuse admittance to hoaxers and deniers. The wards will clear and medical workers can get some breaks.

What's sad is that Ontario is still doing significantly better than the southern US states, it makes Ford look nearly competent...
