Hey, what happens in New Zealand should just stay in New Zealand. Not gonna kink shame a dude who's gone to great lengths to massage the people's trust to quarantine and take on this pandemic by the shaft and explode the myths and falsehoods, to complete their victory over this disease.

And now we see why New Zealand remains the gold standard for covid-19 government response.

And to think, if we had an effective response, we could all be sunning our taints by the poolside, too.

Where is everyone questioning his ability to lead, or his cognitive ability? Clearly his wife must be running the show, or it's all a plot to put in place his number 2 as the real power.

Wait, that only happens in the US?

Well to be fair 45** did try to suggest that internal application of UV light would help.

To be fair, considering the previous "president" here, those were valid questions and observations at the time.

Whenever someone tells you they cured cancer in a petri dish, don't forget - a bullet does that, too. Just killing pathogens is *easy*.

Dude, because the Politics tab is usually a place of anger, frustration, impending doom, and resignation for me, this little super innocent funny, and the great humored acknowledgement of the slip up, I guffawed quite a bit harder than I normally would have.

And, this just reinforces that New Zealand is up there at #1 or #2 of places I want to flee to as a refugee when the American Taliban takes over DFW airport.

I was under the impression that NZ beat this disease last year.  Like such to the point that they were having full-fan attendance games and stuff.

Did that change?  Did they indeed reopen to soon?

//I really don't know, because I don't get any news out of NZ.

It is an easy watching show, with some funny (if sometimes predictable) gags.

That said, I hate Boyle. The actor is annoying, the character is worse...I guess he's a necessary part of the crew but...bleh.

Everything was open with no precautions other than masks on public transport ("Level 1") until last week. A delta case with no known connection to the border/quarantine was detected in Auckland on Tuesday. The country went into full lockdown (Level 4) Tuesday night. We'll remain so until at least the end of this week, Auckland longer. There are now 107 cases detected, though it seems like they're nearly all connected. These briefings occur daily to update the numbers and locations of interest.

Beat it?  No, but they have effectively held it at bay and largely kept it outside of their country.  They still have a long way to go to get proper vaccination levels, but their protocols kick in at the slightest indication of an outbreak.  This has bought them valuable time.  They take covid SERIOUSLY.

The Buzz Killington response is we'd still have Trump as our POTUS if we had.

New Zealand, population 5.1m, has less than one-third the deaths of Gibraltar, population 34,000. They've more than earned the chance to get out and spread their legs.

We opened a travel bubble with Australia, which somehow resulted in somebody from Sydney, where apparently daily idiot carnivals are taking place with thousands of idiots taking to the streets to fight the police for...stopping them from continuing to spread the virus.

So much like everything else in the world this is Australia's fault.

Having crossed the road through quite a jovial anti-lockdown protest in Adelaide the other week (masked up and flipping double birds to the crowd) I'm stealing "idiot carnival". It really summed up the atmosphere.

note: Adelaide is not, in fact, locked down at the moment.  We're so boring not even the plague wants to come visit.

yeah the anti-lockdown farkwits were responsible enough to not have any anti-lockdown protests until after our lockdown ended last year, thankfully there haven't been any in my town
