You can, but you don't have to.

Yeah, he's a complete amateur and not a professional. There's no way he wouldn't be able to do precisely what the job needs. AND there's no way he was given far less time to prepare and was likely to have been undercut by the man who actually wanted the job and viewed the most popular candidate as a threat. I'm sure you're completely onto something here.

I'm sure that was Mike Richard's perspective as well.

I mean, it doesn't ultimately matter, but this torches-and-pitchforks pontificating about Burton as if he's a farking idiot who couldn't do the job is amazing to me. Because people are acting like Jeopardy producers castrated Levar Burton on live TV. All they did was not hire him for a job he's not qualified to do

Yeah, this invective against him is astounding. You need to really step back and look at yourself.

I'm not pushing for Burton. But I do know -- as you should too -- that he was undercut. Maybe if the producers, getting rid of your pal Richards, actually auditioned and considered people instead of doing a dog and pony show, they might come up with something honest.

That's what I'm seeking, and believe you're helping undercut, is honesty.

I'm not even sure what this is supposed to mean. Louie Anderson has been making a living doing stand up comedy for literally his entire adult life and he was a bad game show host. Just as an example. Having one skill in entertainment doesn't mean you have all skills

Most of the other people who were actually auditioning (Jennings, Buzzy, etc) did fine. I don't know why everyone thinks the sabotage was only made for poor ol' Levar. This is a case of people thinking the internet is real life. That everyone on Earth was pushing for Levar to be the host, when it was just a weird corner of the internet. It was the Snakes on a Plane of game shows

Not hatred, no vitriol, just the realization he wasn't the best at it and he wasn't by quite a bit.  There's so much of "he would grow into it and get better" which is probably correct, but the people that were already better than him would improve as well.

To be fair -- I didn't think Burton did that great of a job. He seemed a little too enthusiastic when contestants got the questions correct. "YOU'RE RIGHT!"

Geez Levar, dial it down a bit. They're grown adults trying to win money on a quiz show, they're not an 8 year old child reading a big word.

But all that can be easily cleaned up and polished with more experience. I can see Burton starting out rough but growing into the role, as Trebek had to do once upon a time. But so did every other guest host. Some of them already have jobs and wouldn't want it (namely the news/sports broadcasters and athletes) so if you remove them then Burton is easily in the top 5 candidates (along with Bialik).

I also didn't think Jennings did too bad a job, he was just unfortunate to immediately follow up Alex which is by far the toughest act to follow, but he's looked better in hindsight after watching a slew of also-rans for 8 months. Maybe go back to him?

Not hiring LeVar Burton to be the host, in spite of the overwhelming support of it across the internet and evern throughout NormieSpace alike, and saying "NAHHHHH! Gonna hire some fartknocker with no appeal instead" is Peak Hollywood Exec.

Need any more proof that Hollywood hates us and produces dogsh*t on purpose?

The social justice set of middle class to upper class wypipo loves to make everything about race to try to deflect from their place in the capitalist hierarchy.

That is one of the reason they love to root for black people to put into token positions, such as homecoming king, department chair, pointless middle manager, etc.

"Look at what happens when we get racism out of the way!"

Meanwhile their trust fund is invested in companies that financially exploit the hood... Maybe just remove your UGGs from the neck of the black working class and things will work out on their own. Black people don't need you to do much other than stop exploiting the working class and get out of the way.

You're looking to make Jeopardy an educational tool, but it isn't PBS, it's there to make money.  The people using it for that care about only that.

Ragin' Asian: I don't know. Why don't we just dig up Art Fleming's corpse and put it on puppet strings?

Well, if we're going to do that, we might as well use Alex, he's fresher.

Unsung_Hero: Stands With A Tiny Fist: Unsung_Hero: Stands With A Tiny Fist: Unsung_Hero:  Well, for one thing... Have you looked around the US?  Tell me you think reading is considered more important than football or celebrity in general.

Have you? Looked around, I mean? Nobody should give two shiats what the American public "considered" important. Reading _is_ more important. Start dealing with reality. and stop catering to the glitter-chasers and glue-sniffers.

That is incompatible with the culture of "fark you, I got mine".

You're looking to make Jeopardy an educational tool, but it isn't PBS, it's there to make money.  The people using it for that care about only that.

Reading is important, but too many people fail to care.

You've just exploded my irony meter. I'm walking away from you for the same reason I walk away from anti-vaxxers. I'm only able to engage with so much American nihilism and obtuseness before I start screaming, and I'm afraid if I start, I'll never stop. Good life, enjoy your glue.

If recognizing reality is 'nihilism and obtuseness', then I'll take it.  fark off, I won't miss you.

I'm so glad you said this. I am now gleefully putting you on ignore which has made my morning brighter and better than before.

Scream into the ether.
